Mario Escapes Mommy’s Wrath In Assault Case

R&B singer Mario has reportedly escaped possible jail time for allegedly assaulting his mother last month after she revealed that he did not physically harm her.

According to reports, Shawntia Hardaway has retracted past claims she made against her son.

Hardaway, who previously battled a heroin addiction, took the stand yesterday and declared she was under the influence when she accused her son of pushing her against a wall and breaking objects in their Baltimore home. The 2nd degree assault charge against Mario has been dropped, the Baltimore state attorney’s office told TMZ. “I’m glad to be finally vindicated,” the 24-year-old tells UsMagazine.com. “I want to thank everyone who believed in me. I will continue to love and support my mother.” (Rap-Up)

Following the incident last month, Mario’s attorney Hassan Murphy addressed the situation.

“This is an unfortunate incident between a loving son and a mother who continues to struggle with a devastating addiction. Anyone who has waged the battle to save loved ones from the forces of drugs knows the irrational behavior that almost always accompanies their actions. Despite the allegations, Mario remains committed to supporting his mother.” (VIBE)

Details on the arrest landed online in early October.

Mario — the platinum-selling R&B singer — was arrested in Baltimore for allegedly assaulting his own mother in an apartment they share. According to police, Mario’s mother Shawntia Hardaway — a former heroin addict — told cops the former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant had been “throwing and damaging property” … and pushed her around with his hands and forearms. Additional information on the incident was also initially released.

Police said that the singer’s mother claimed he was “throwing and damaging property” in the Baltimore apartment they live in, and had “pushed her using his hands and forearms, causing minor pain.” Police said they found a damaged china cabinet, broken mirror, scattered glass pieces and a hole in a door when they inspected the residence.
