According to Fresh, Mystikal is now very careful with the decisions and actions he makes.

“He is a super talented dude,” Fresh said in an interview. “On top of that anybody gone for a while is gonna have a whole ton of songs. He is really that artist and had a bunch of songs. He knows his raps by heart and there’s no reading off a paper…Well, from us vibing and talking he is cautious and very careful about things. He pays attention to his surroundings like crazy and that’s to be expected. He learned some lessons. He is with three dudes at the most now and he says that whole entourage thing is over for him.” (XXL Mag)

Earlier this month, Mystikal talked about incarcerated rappers taking responsibility for their mistakes.

“It’s crazy. A lot of people ask me if I feel like they targeting rappers, and I guess there’s truth to that, but the bottom line is, I’m in control of the decisions I make. I’m in control of the positions that I allow myself to be in. I’m in control of the muthaf*ckas I have around me. So in all those areas, I f*cked up. So it ultimately falls on me. So you got to wise up with the decisions you make, especially if you f*ckin’ successful. Respect your success. I came off the throne to try to show somebody to just pay attention to what the f*ck you do ’cause it can cost you. Look how much it cost me, man. Six years. I’d be at that $100 million mark right now. I guarantee you. So now they done pissed me off. Now I want $200 million.” (Complex)

With the help of R&B singer Lloyd, Mystikal recently made his rap comeback on the “Set Me Free” music video.

“The stars are aligning in 2010. It’s a year of new beginnings … him being released from prison, me getting free from The Inc.,” Lloyd said in an statement. “‘Set Me Free’ is so much more than asong to us; it’s our reality. Like Mystikal says, ‘I’m back on the beach, muscle up, b*tch!’ … The track has that ‘second line’/brass band sound that you can only get back home in New Orleans. I never made a song that repped for my birth city, and when I wrote the record I had only one person in mind. I wanted to make it authentic, so I went back home during Marti Gras. Me and Mystikal got in the studio, and we knocked it out. The energy was crazy! And as you can see, he hasn’t lost a step. Wild Wayne of Q93 [in] New Orleans and Greg Street of V103 [in] Atlanta help bring the collaboration together. It was a blessing to work with a legend that I’ve admired for years.” (MTV)

Mystikal began serving his time roughly six years ago.

The rap star was imprisoned due to forcing his hairstylist to have sex with him several years ago, as well as an extortion charge. He initially denied the assault crime, until a videotape of the incident was discovered at his home. Mystikal plead guilty to the charges he faced in 2003, and then began a six year prison sentence in Louisiana State Prison system. During his prison sentence, he was also charged and convicted of misdemeanor counts of failing to file taxreturns for 1998 and 1999. Mystikal began serving his time after January 16, 2004. (Gather)
