A man accused of killing the friend of New Orleans rapper Juvenile has reportedly been given life behind bars for his role in the 2004 murder.
According to reports, the convicted felon was given his sentence in court this week.
A federal jury convicted Raymond in October on several charges related to carjacking and murder. Three other men, part of a posse that spotted Nathaniel Robertson driving the loaned Hummer H2, had already pleaded guilty in the case. On Thursday, U.S. District Court Judge Lance Africk issued the sentence of life, in prison, according to U.S. Attorney Jim Letten‘s office. (NOLA News)
He is also responsible for paying $6,000 to the Robertson family.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael McMahon said Raymond doesn’t deserve a break. “There is nothing, nothing, that mitigates this cold-blooded murder,” McMahon said, adding that Raymond is lucky he didn’t end up on death row. Raymond thanked Africk for “being a fair judge throughout the trial” but declined to say anything else before he was sentenced. The judge also ordered Raymond to pay $6,000 in restitution to Robertson’s family to cover funeral expenses. (The Republic)
Raymond was officially convicted in New Orleans last fall.
In October 2011, a jury convicted Raymond of fatally shooting Nathaniel Robertson with an assault rifle as he parked his Hummer in the city’s Lower 9th Ward on June 9, 2004. Witnesses testified that Raymond later bragged about the killing after being freed from state custody after only 60 days. Federal investigators took over the case after nobody was charged in the killing in state court. Three other men pleaded guilty in the case. (KLFY News)
The murder dates back to June 2004 and involved Raymond along with a few other associates.
Raymond and the others stalked Robertson and confronted him as he parked the truck outside his house in the 2200 block of Jourdan Avenue. Raymond shot Robertson five times in the back. The Hummer belonged to the brother of high-profile New Orleans rapper Juvenile — whose real name is Terius Gray. Robertson, a 37-year-old carpenter, was a friend of the Gray family, and was taking temporary care of the vehicle. (The Times-Picayune)
