Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz recently revealed an unexpected phone call he received from comeback emcee Ma$e and some advice he passed on from the late Notorious B.I.G.
Detailing the conversation, Chainz detailed what knowledge Biggie broke off on Ma$e.
“A legend hit me the other day,” Chainz said in an interview with radio host Big Boy. “This my first time putting it in an interview. But Ma$e hit me the other day and told me he was a fan of my music, dog. And then he told me something that Biggie said and I felt like Biggie told it to me. … Biggie told Ma$e at the time they was popping, whatever, he said, ‘Get it while you can and can it when you get it.’ And I was like, it felt like Biggie had told me. That phone call just meant so much. Stuff like that lets me know I’m covering ground.” (Power 106)
Conincidentally, Ma$e recently called up G.O.O.D. Music’s Big Sean.
“Ma$e just hit me up, too. We got something in the works,” Sean revealed in an interview. “He surprised me, he called me just out of nowhere. He was like, ‘What’s up, this Ma$e — I’m really digging your style. We need to work on something.’ I’m like, ‘What the f*ck?’ [laughs] Nah, but, that’s somebody I came up listening to, that whole Bad Boy era — we got something in the works for him, a lot of people.” (Cipha Sounds & Peter Rosenberg)
Recently, Young Money star Drake described his admiration toward Chainz.
“Like I say in the song, ‘Me and Chainz go way back,’ that’s no lie,” Drake said in an interview referring to their “No Lie” collaboration. “I spent a lot of my early days with Young Money on the road with 2 Chainz. We definitely built a rapport. It’s great to see him at the top of his game right now. The world loves him and it’s well deserved. He’s a hardworking guy.” (MTV)
G-Unit’s 50 Cent recently showered Chainz with a flurry of co-signs in light of his current mainstream grind.
“[Potentially hot artists?] Definitely 2 Chainz ’cause he’s been around. He’s one of them guys that’s finally having a moment. I remember when he was in Playaz Circle. I know it’s been years and years of work. And the kid Future. He’s got some hits under his belt that ain’t under his name, like that ‘Racks’ joint. I watch. It may seem like I’m doing business in different areas and doing different things, but my passion for music hasn’t changed.” (Shade 45)
