Mac Miller Sad Over Kanye West/J. Cole Hype: “Everybody Cares So Much About The Number Of Albums We’re Selling”

With his new Watching Movies with the Sound Off just a couple weeks away from hitting store shelves, Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller admits he is not thriving off competing against J. Cole's Born Sinner and Kanye West's Yeezus.

In Miller’s perspective, too much emphasis is being placed on what album outsells the others once June 18 arrives.

“it makes me sad that everybody cares so much about the number of albums we are selling first week. as if that actually means something.,” he tweeted June 7th. (Mac Miller’s Twitter)

A few days ago, Miller playfully predicted all three albums will fail to outsell country music star Hunter Hayes come mid-June.

“everyone gna be pissed when hunter hayes sells more than all of us combined.,” he tweeted June 5th.

“ima have myself a good laugh.”

Miller’s prediction could fall flat as Hayes’ new album is merely a re-release.

The dates mark Hayes’ second tour as a headliner, and his first in support of the new material on “Hunter Hayes (Encore),” a re-release of his self-titled debut due June 18. Preceded by lead single “I Want Crazy,” the 17-track set features nine exclusive songs and re-recordings. That includes turning the debut’s “What You Gonna Do” into a duet with Pistol Annies’ Ashley Monroe, who will also be the opening act for the Let’s Go Crazy Tour. (Billboard)

Last month, he talked about preparing for the challenge of Watching Movies with the Sound Off dropping on the same day as Ye and Cole’s releases.

“Kanye’s album. It is [dropping that day], for real? You guys have the industry connect. So is it for real? Right. I feel him. At first, I had that date for a while and then it felt so right,” Miller said, referring to June 18th. “And then I was a little nervous at first. But I was like, ‘This is an omen.'” (Skee TV)
