With a three year break since their last album, SOHH spoke with M.O.P.'s Billy Danze and Lil' Fame as they discussed their relationship with G-Unit and offered details about their upcoming release, The Foundation.
During their three years on 50 Cent‘s label, the duo never released a project.
“I apologize personally to all the M.O.P. fans out there for not getting an album out faster,” Danze told SOHH. “But if you a fan then you understand everything got to be in place everything got to be right. If you know M.O.P. and you are a fan then you’re not going to be disappointed at all. We’re going to continue to give you the M.O.P. that you know and love.” (SOHH)
According to the Brooklyn-based duo, the music industry’s decline caused their delay.
“I think the music declined and everything declined, all the companies and not just music but everything else. Everybody had to downsize, do a little shifting while we were just lingering. I just think that the industry itself was the cause of M.O.P. not being able to put the record out,” said Billy Danze (SOHH)
Danze and Fame also claim to have nothing but respect for the G-Unit leader.
“50 is a good dude. People had this whole thought about him that he was not a good person but he’s actually a good dude so hanging out with him for the time that we did, we toured with him and everything. Dude’s a solid dude, grounded dude and… I think him and I appreciate him giving us the opportunity to further our careers.” (SOHH)
In February of 2008 M.O.P. decided to part ways with Fif.
While M.O.P.’s three year stint on G-Unit did not yield an album, the group benefited greatly from the situation, according to their longtime manager. “The great thing about the G-Unit deal is that it cleared all the debts the group carried over the years,” Laze explained. “So we are starting basically from scratch.” (Allhiphop)
Now signed to E1 Music (formerly KOCH), M.O.P. is set to release, The Foundation, on June 30th.
The disc will feature collaborations with Beanie Sigel, Redman Styles P, and Busta Rhymes, who will appear on the first single “Blow The Horns.” The video for the song is set to debut soon, with a video, shot in New York, soon to follow. (XXLMag)
