During his rant, Lupe revealed his issues with people complaining about neighborhood problems but listening to music which negatively boasts about those conditions on their radio.

“Let me get this sh*t off my chest,” Lupe told a crowd of fans. “We clearly have motherf*ckers talking all that, ‘Man, the streets are so f*cked up. Dudes are shooting at each other. These girls are running around here running reckless and all this other crazy sh*t.’ Then it be them same motherf*ckers that go on they radio stations and play their motherf*cking songs — that sh*t just irks me, I sit back and look at sh*t and be like, ‘D*mn, I can’t even speak on the sh*t no more because it’s so ridiculous because we do it to our f*cking self.’ You know what I’m saying? In the littlest, smallest ways. The smallest, hypocrtical ways.” (YouTube)

He also defended taking a public stand and unleashing his feelings at a radio-based concert.

“It comes to a point where you have to stand up and speak on some sh*t,” Lupe added. “You can hate me for saying that, I know I sound like I’m preaching, but I don’t give a f*ck. … When I say stuff like that and you hear me rant, when I say something, I mean it, from the bottom of my heart because I’m a brave, courageous motherf*cker. If there’s some sh*t wrong in the world, I’m going to speak on it. If you don’t like it, then don’t pay me to do the sh*t then.” (YouTube)

Last weekend, fellow Chicago rap star Kanye West went on a rant about the music industry’s politics.

“Creativity fuels everything. I hate business people. People get on the phone with me and talk to me, you know, like, ‘What kind of business can it do, though? What type of business are you doing? What’s the numbers? How many did you sell? What’s the radio spins? How much shampoo do you sell with your face on it and sh*t?’ Remind, remind me again why we in this sh*t. Remind me again why we in this sh*t. Make it even more mellow, maybe even just the chorus — remind me again why the Grammys can suck my d*ck, remind me again who’s the original super fly/And I got love for Hov but I ain’t f*ckin’ with that ‘Suit & Tie’/Remind me again, remind me again why we in this sh*t/Remind me again, remind me again why we in this sh*t…” (YouTube)

Around mid-January, Fiasco ran into some problems during a stage rant which resulted in him having his show cut short.

After refusing to perform a different song, Lupe was escorted off stage by security. Now This News captured footage of Lupe getting kicked off stage, while Foreign Policy journalist Josh Rogin live tweeted the story as it happened. However, the event organizers released a statement claiming Lupe was removed for “other” reasons. (Miss Info TV)
