Luda confirmed the friendly competition during a recent inteview.

“Diddy, yeah yeah yeah, we have a bet going on,” Luda told television host Chelsea Handler. “We both have five number one Billboard singles on the charts so we’re trying to see who is gonna get that sixth one. [Who will win?] Oh come on now, you know, I’m down for it. [laughs]” (“Chelsea Lately”)

Reports of the initial challenge began to make headlines around mid-March.

Ludacris and Diddy have been having a little fun on Twitter, talking about who would be the first rapper to have six songs reach #1 on The Billboard Hot 100. First, Ludacris tweeted that he was the first rapper to do so. Diddy congratulated him, but called Ludacris to let him know that he already had 5 and so, the challenge to 6 was on. It was at this point that Ludacris revealed that the two would appear on the same track soon and if that went number 1, then it would be a battle for 7. Diddy agreed, saying that they’d get 6 together and then go for 7, but that he’s still number 1 and you must “beat the champ to get the belt.” (Bad Boy Blog)

Earlier this month, Luda informed his Twitter followers of making Billboard history.

“On the way to Acapulco Mexico to tape MTV spring break to Promote Battle of The SEXes. It’s Hard work but somebody’s gotta do it… Ha!!!!!,” he wrote earlier today (March 15). “Just received word that because of the fans we have made history yet again. Thanks 2 Taio Cruz, im theOnly rapper 2 have 5 #1 billboard hits.” (Ludacris’ Twitter)

His “Break Your Heart” collaboration marks his latest chart-topping record since 2007.

Luda’s got a long list of hits and it goes on. With the success of Taio Cruz’s “Break Your Heart”, Ludacris scored his fifth number one record on Billboard’s Hot 100. Read ’em and weep: Taio Cruz Ft.
