In just over three months, Luda’s latest release hit gold status.

Three-time Grammy Award-winner Ludacris takes home his eighth consecutive RIAA certified album this week, as BATTLE OF THE SEXES (released March 9th) turns gold with U.S. sales in excess of a half-million units. The ninth album from DTP/Def Jam artist Ludacris, and his fourth #1 Soundscan debut, BATTLE OF THE SEXES is now three hit singles deep – following the success of the RIAA platinum #1 Urban Radio smash “How Low”; “My Chick Bad” featuring Nicki Minaj (released in February, a #2 Rap, #2 R&B, and Top 10 pop crossover hit); and the brand new “Sex Room” featuring Trey Songz. Since debuting atop the charts last March, Luda’s new album has consistently remained within the Top 50 on SoundScan.

Southern rapper Ludacris’ Battle of the Sexes received a four spot boost to No. 29 with 11,700. With 13 weeks in the books, Luda’s compilation project has now sold 440,800 records to date. (SOHH Sales Wrap)

Earlier this year, Luda explained the significance behind Battle of the Sexes.

“It’s such a male-dominated industry that I feel like females need more of a voice, so we wanted to hear more of what the hell they had to say,” Luda said in an interview. “With that being said, I went out and got women from the past, the present and the future — everyone from Lil Kim, Eve, Trina, Nicki Minaj. I got records where I’m talking about women … and where women are talking back to me.” (MTV)

SOHH spoke with Southern rapper Chamillionaire to get his reaction to Luda’s sales.

“What’s more impressive to me is the fact of his longevity man, his whole career,” Cham told SOHH. “Ludacris man, he’s underestimated. A lot of people don’t really look at his history and see how much he’s done for like, what is this, like his 10th album or something like that? He’s been out for a long time and has managed to always stay pretty relevant. I kinda look at Fabolous the same way, he may not be Jay-Z but he always manages to come out with [records like] ‘Breathe’ and all these songs, and he did the song with Nate Dogg, he’s always able to walk that line and stay relevant and that’s a very hard thing to do. So it’s only right that he comes out number one. It’s not even a surprise to me, man, because nowadays there’s a lot of artists that’s fly by night. Some people may even look at me as fly by night, I haven’t had on a major level a career like Ludacris or people like that but it’s only what I would hope for. That’s what I’m grinding for.” (SOHH)
