[With hip-hop’s new elite of artists like Kendrick Lamar and Joey Bada$$ bringing self-awareness to the rap game, SOHH correspondent Kheron Blue highlights his “Lost Prophet” of the week. Today’s pick: Da’V.]

This week I nominate Da’V as the Lost Prophet of the Week.

You’ll be hearing a lot of positive things from this up and coming rapper from Chicago. Chi-Town is known for introducing the era of “drill music” which is known for it’s cruel and violent lyrics.

Hence, the reason why Chicago is known as “Chiraq.”

Most rappers out of this era are a product of their environment and rap about their neighborhood as if it were a war zone. Usually this kind of music consists of drugs, gang violence, sex, and other violent nature associated to the streets of Chicago.

Da ‘V decided to take an alternative route and use his lyrics to serve as a voice for the younger generation. He’s not neglecting the fact that Chicago is a rough place and endured several hardships and struggles. Instead he’s glorifying it saying it’s making him grind harder and strive more everyday to chase his dreams.

He’s not talking about selling drugs, committing murders, and exploiting women. Da ‘V is addressing everyday problems in society. The more gems these young artists drop, the more they shine a light bright enough to illuminate the next diamonds in the rough of these future generations.

You may be at war in your city, but that doesn’t mean you can’t show love to where you came from and the place that made you who you are today. Da’V does a great job of expressing that to the fans.

What is a Lost Prophet?

The “Lost Prophet” concept comes from the realization that we aren’t perfect and we don’t have all the answers. However it doesn’t mean that we can’t make an impact on this world based on the talents we were blessed with or the knowledge we obtain to spread the wisdom. Being “lost” means we were born into a world with limited answers but endless questions. So it’s up to us to find ourselves and what makes us important to adding to the positive energy of the universe. Some people find themselves through music. Others find themselves through sports.etc. We were all created different to fulfill our own unique purpose. That’s where the concept of a prophet comes in.
