R&B singer Lloyd has taken a "less-is-more" approach to his image by cutting off his signature braids he's maintained for over ten years.

Photos of the “new” singer hit the Internet late Thursday (September 2) night.

Lloyd’s been rocking shoulder-plus length locks since way before he was crooning on 2004’s “Southside” with Ashanti. But today the new Interscope signee (under Polow Da Don‘s Zone 4 imprint) hit up an Atlanta barbershop to switch up his ‘do for a good cause – – he’s donating to Locks for Love. (VIBE)

Lloyd also opened up about why he chose to get rid of his braids.

Mahogany Wright, Lloyd’s long time hair braider gave the artist one final braid, then did the honors of cutting off the 12 inch lock of hair. Moments before, Lloyd had this to say, “I’m doing this for me. I feel like it’s time for a change and now is the perfect time.” Lloyd’s childhood barber, known simply as “Parker The Barber”, who was the last person to cut his hair when he was just 14, finished the job, giving the artist a fresh new look. After his cut, Lloyd simply stated, “I feel liberated.” (Ozone Mag)

The new look is one of many ventures Lloyd is taking on which also includes an upcoming album called King of Hearts.

“It’s a growth process, it’s been a few years since the last time I released my own music, so for me, it’s pretty relieving,” Lloyd said in an interview. “Just to know that all the hard work has paid off. For me, I think it’s the perfect start for King of Hearts, which is my next album to be released, produced by Polow Da Don, recorded in Los Angeles and I just think people have never heard me sing like this before…I think it’s clever, the fact that we’re gonna release it in February, right around Valentine’s Day, it just kinda worked out. Aside from Polow, there isn’t much more on the album [production-wise]. I wanted to keep it consistent and I wanted to have continuity in the sound and I think when you bounce around and work with a lot of people, you kinda lose the complete thought and you end up with a bunch of sentence fragments. So with me working with just Polow, we all was focused, in the same direction, we all dedicated 110 percent of ourselves toward this project. And I think only then can you get the best quality sound.” (Rap-Up)

Recently, Lloyd said his post-Murder Inc. release would be packed with surprises.

“I’m the King of Hearts, you know,” Lloyd said in an interview. “And at the album release, we gonna be drinking Ace of Spades…Me and Polow Da Don have been working hard. I got a lot of surprises. I think that a lot of people haven’t heard me sound like this, haven’t heard me sing like this. It’s gonna be a new look, it’s gonna be like I’m back for the first time. It should be anticipated. The album is gonna be my best work to date, King of Hearts.” (MTV)
