Former Murder Inc. singer Lloyd has opened up about his ex-boss Irv Gotti and former labelmate Ja Rule.

He also talked about his new life as an Interscope Records artist.

“[It’s] just a new energy and new drive,” Lloyd said in an interview. “Creatively it’s different because it’s me and Pollow [Da Don] crafting the sound. I’ve never had this kind of artist/producer relationship before. We’re making some great music…I just let the past be the past and move forward. No bad blood and no hard feelings [against Irv or Ja], just lessons learned. I wish all those guys the best…Love isn’t necessarily the theme [on my upcoming album], but it’s definitely a big part of it. Lust, love, relationships, sex, it’s all in there. The sound is something you just have to hear. People will be surprised.” (Hip Hop N More)

Last September, Lloyd spoke on his issues with Irv.

“I’ve made a lot of changes,” Lloyd said in an interview. “I’m happy than I’ve ever been. I’m happy to say I worked out my own release and I am very optimistic about the future. Ever since I was signed, I was dedicated to trying to make good music, something that’s worth hearing. And just trying to work with this rubble that I was given and build something out of it — being the current state of the label when I first arrived. I didn’t really have too much to work with…The label itself had no distribution. I was forced to record my own music with my own money with my own friends, while I was still under contract. All I had was me and my management and my friends in Atlanta…It wasn’t so much person as it was business. I’ve learned to separate the two and sometimes in this business there is no friendship, no bottom line. The sad thing is a lot of young guys come into the game very early without knowledge or without a guidance in their lives and they fall victim to the glitz and the glam. I always try to look past that and keep my eyes on the prize which was becoming a great artist and really making music history one way or another.” (Lloyd Music TV)

Irv previously responded to accusations made by Lloyd about his role on The Inc.

“He is still signed with Murder Inc. and I will make a decision shortly on what I am gonna do with him,” Gotti wrote in a statement. “His last record didn’t sell well at all. And, once again, he had his CREATIVE freedom to do whatever he wanted to do. But for some reason the people did not respond to the album or to him. But I will decide what I wanna do! As always when it comes to me, it’s Murder For Life! And anyone who doesn’t wanna be a part of that, I will take into consideration.” (Statement)

In March, Lloyd announced a new record deal with Interscope.

Baby and [Lil] Wayne were definitely the first people to reach out to me,” he revealed in an interview. “I talked to them about a deal. That’s who I thought I’d end up with in my heart. The problem is that Young Money/Cash Money is exclusive to Universal Motown. As you and I know, that’s where I did my last two albums. I wasn’t excited about going back. I tried to do a Young Money/Cash Money deal through another distributor, but it couldn’t be done. At the end of the day, I’m still family, though.” (MTV)

    • no disrespect to PAC but he gone!! and I bet even he lookin down from the sky like “damn!! this nigga Jay tho…RESPECT!!!” that man did it bigger than all ya favorite rappers PUT TOGETHER I bet and that’s why NIGGAS cant stand him!!

    • Because they are not here. To see or hear someone they would have to be in a position to perceive. U could just as easily ask “how do you know there is an afterlife” to the person who made the parent post. I am a christian and I am taught that nobody one one side can perceive the other. If we are talking what we see only it is possible there is nothing beyond death. Neither scenario supports the idea of pac approving Jay.

  1. That’s his opinion. In my opinion Beanie Sigel and Kanye West outshined Jay on nearly every track they collabed with him on. Joe Buddens pump it up freestyle was better too. Nas won their multiple track battle off of one song. Eminem murdered him on his own shit

    • you do realize it took NAS a whole song to duplicate what Jay gave him in 16 bars

    • Lil fame also outshined him on the you don’t know remix. Biggie outrapped him.

    • Co-sign, also everything jay spit at nas was facts that actually happen. nas just had fabricated disses.

    • even i love the dough, to me it was always even when they were on a track together.

    • Actually it was 32 bars for verse 3 and 2 bars from the second verse. You do know that Jay did several responses to ether right. Dont you know, super ugly, blueprint 2?

    • If that is your reasoning for saying Jay had a better diss then I guess Benzino slayed eminem. For that matter Cam was way more factual than jay was back in 06. Horse said that he was never even nas’ bodyguard in the last year. Also nas is not “gay” or even whack. IWW was better than most of jay’s discography. Also nas dropped 7 albums in 10 years. Jay wasnt in the rap game 5 years he was in it 16 years if you want to talk first rap appearance. Nas was only in the game 7 years if you mean albums. Nas is still in everyone’s top 10. Also the world is yours is arguably better than dead presidents. Even “nas don’t want it with hov” was false.

    • It is arguable. “If faith had twins she probably had 2 pacs” “who shot ya my ties like sinatra.” Also on ILTD “niggas is actors niggas derserve oscars” biggie had more memorable lines. Also i feel big l really ripped jay in the 7 minute freestyle bad. Forgot to add that to the list.

    • That was such a materialistic track…but still biggie has word play “speak my name I make em dash like damon” and more vivid imagery about carribean sands with rachel, riding on horses, betting on the lakers. Jay was being silly talking about monopoly with real cash. Jay had to mispronounce and misenunciate tyson’s name just to make that bar fit. Also the whole “makes sense don’t it…make dollars” is the same word play we heard on a dj quik hook and it seems to be random to tell the listner to make money when you are supposed to be describing your own wealth.

    • “Rolex and bracelets is frostbit; rings too Niggaz ’round the way call me Igloo Stix” come on man

    • I want someone to explain to me what exactly “bars” are. I think people think of bars differently.

    • 1 bar is the sentence who’s last sylable rhymes with the next or last sentence. “You guys don’t want it with hov/ ask nas he don’t want it with hov nooooo!!!!!!”

    • dead presidents is better than the world is yours, go back n listen or download the lyrics if u have to. u yung cats dont understand half the stuff jay spits bcuz yall cant relate. the 2nd verse on dead pres bodies that whole song. Also u can never compare nas to jay career, jay is way more consistent, has way more accolades, has way more hits n sold way more than nas. oh n lets not foget when ya boy nas was fading hov employed him so stop with the comparison bcuz its just embarrising.

    • Dead presidents 1 or 2? I don’t think he was refering to the first because it was never officially released. Illmatic >>>>. The REAL i am shits on volume 3. Both i am and nastradamus had to be compltely changed in response to bootleging. Stillmatic >blueprint. God’s son>bp2. Hhid>kingdom come. Untitled and lig> bp3

    • reasonable doubt, in my lifetime,1 in mylifetime 2, the black album, American Gangster, Blueprint 1, Bp3, > Illmatic, It was written, stillmatic, Life is good. nas only had 4 solid albums throughout his whole career, God son had a small few joints but overall that album was a lack luster.

    • He came better than he did on Success, but I felt Jay still took him on Black Republican, easily. “I’m standing on the roof of my building…” What building?! You don’t live in the hood no more, man! Also, why you name droppin’ the OTHER dude that was smashing your baby momma too?! Meanwhile, Jay went Reasonable Doubt on that ass.

    • “And since you infatuated with sayin’ that gay shit… Yes, you was kissin’ my dick when you was kissin’ that bitch.”

      That’s a KO.

  2. Suckin Jay-z off on Twitter doesn’t mean he’s going to save your weak album, Shyne.

  3. Finally Shyne saying some real shyt…Hov the best to do it COMPLETELY…dead or alive…before you Pac niggaz and you Nas niggaz get all defensive…peep what I said…the key word here is COMPLETELY…AND if you can’t admit that ya whole perspective is wack

    • I like the usage of the word COMPLETELY!!! the dude was way ahead of his time from jump when he entered his solo career!! (not counting the Jaz-O bullshit)…he’s the ALL AROUND best to ever do it dead or alive!

    • and??!!! so what u saying?!!! lyrically he’s top 5 and EVERYTHING ELSE…business wise, consistency wise, etc — he’s top 1!!! that would make the greatest ALL AROUND COMPLETE artist/mogul as I said!

    • Pac and em and nas are all more well rounded. Jay can neither battle like any of them (pac had emotion, em got punches, nas has pure descriptive capibilities), nor story tell like them (brenda’s got a baby, rewind, brain damage). Jay is may be better @ club music but nas still has had club records. Jay is best @ having the most money and everyone else makes excuses to defend the hype.

    • But Jay never really seperated from Jaz until like 02. Where do you draw the line?

    • stop playin dumb fam! ROCAFELLA records bruh! c’mon u have to know what I meant! I was dismissing the early videos with Jaz-O…I’m talking about when HE and his partners build up ROCAFELLA and shot their first video in St Thomas…where other rappers have to save up to shoot maybe their 8th video there lol! dude was ahead of his time! u knew exactly what I meant! yea Jaz O was around until 02…but he was dependent on the nigga anymore??…if anything it was the other way around!

    • See…U missed the word COMPLETE…As I knew niggaz would…Jay an artist, a boss, an entrepreneur, cultural icon, philanthropist, family man, living legend…niggaz respect Hov globally

    • My dude u make some good points but Jay can make the claim more than any rapper that he’s the greatest. Look at all the categories that make a great rapper. Lyrics, hits, sales, performance, influence, longevity. He may not be the best in any one category, but when u look at the whole picture, no one can make a better claim to being the greatest. People confuse their favorite rapper with the greatest rapper.

    • absolutely…i don’t even wanna hear ya lame ass top 5 save it! bunch of niggas i dont care for

    • But even still when Jay was in the 90s pre reasonable doubt he had A LOT of records with sauce money…and i mean more than he has with ye or r kelly. In rocafella so many of his songs were with bleek beans amil. It would be like calling 02 50 and Cam solo artists.

    • Even then i would still give it to em. He has lyrics hits sales performance and longevity. In terms of influence jay jumps from trend to trend. In 96 he was on some mafioso coke rap shit because everyone in new york was doing it. After cash money popped he was doing bounce music. Jay somehow receives credit for the sped up soul sample production style of just and ye. He started out rappinf like Jaz. His newer flow screams “young chris”. When Flocka came out we then hear Jay on a lex luger beat. In 09 we hear techno crap off that track. When jimmy became popular we see jay start to wear tighter jeans and skulls. When x and ja were hot we see jay with bandanas on. When big was hear jay was wearing suits etc

    • But you missed the word “rapper”. As a status symbol he is basically an acessory to beyonce and a very small minority owner of a basketball team. He’s done a couple of commercials and is a casual associate of barak and oprah.

    • ur a blatant hater. How could u discount this guys contribution. He came in the game unknown to the general public and worked his way to the top with clever rhymes and later big hits. The man has more number 1 albums than elvis. He has transcended hiphop into a cultural icon. He’s lyrically relevant, sales, trends, etc. How can u look in the mirror at night and not call urself a hater. He doesn’t have to be ur favorite rapper, but u have to admit he has done the most to make that claim. Em hasn’t been in the game as long, and Em garners energy because he rarely drops albums

    • sorry sir…I don’t comprehend your point whatsoever …infact ur reaching to make some kind of point …have a good day

    • Jay is influential…i get it. That don’t say much about rap. Infinite was before reasonable doubt. There is practically no difference between 16 and 13 years….especially when you take in account that Jay had a 3 year hiatus. Em has dropped an album in 010 jay has not. Em is working on an album right now jay may or may not be working on WTT 2. I blame em and the label. We both know that em has an unreleased king mathers and relapse 2 album. Jay just drops everything even if it is rushed and unpolished like kingdom come.

    • Jay has very few “solo” songs. And even still they were often other peoples tracks first…we just hear the Jay version. People who were on the roc could tell you all about it. Go youtube some interviews and documentaries.lol if u don’t know who sauce money is. I aslo assume you don’t read xxl, source, vibe or you take the “jay is right everyone one else is a bitter, hating, liar” opinion.

    • Em had 2 good albums. Slim shady LP and Marshall Mathers LP. His shock value, wit and humor made those albums. I must admit i haven’t listened to recovery. Relapse was garbage. Em sold all those records because he had talent and he was white. It was during that TRL era. Name an Em album that was better than Blueprint or reasonable doubt? U really think Em has been more influential than Jay, and made a bigger imprint on hiphop than Jay? I have to quit arguing with u. U must be under 21.

    • Em’s best albums are nothing compared to jay’s best. Em in 2000 was still better than jay was. Same for 99. I straight facedly claim eminem show is more focused and less filler than the second blue print. I understand people don’t want to hear 80 minutes of accents but in terms of flow, delivery, lyrics em is rapping better than Jay on relapse. Recovery to me had better subject matter and production and is a grown em spreading his wings. Also bme seem to have better chemistry and tracks than “the throne”. Jay has classics but do u really think he can make one this year or next?

    • Mannnnn, you are right on the money with everything you said!! Jay Z really is a swagger jacker. I saw where somebody else said he was biting Young Chirs flow and I went and looked up some Young Chris songs on Youtube and boyyyy he really did copy Young Chris. Most people don’t know Young Chris so they think Jay Z made that sh t up! Jay Z is a sneaky son of a b tch. I hope Kanye gets away from him because he is def riding on Kanyes coat tails. Without Kanyes production Jay would have fallen off years ago. Kanye has single handeldly kept Jay Z relevant.

    • He was cultural icon before he admitted to owning Beyonce…but hey I ovastand your biased stance…u a Pac and Nas fan…it’s expected that you guys can not and will not give credit to anyone other than those two rappers…

    • Kingdom Come is more tolerable than 98% of the shyt out right now including WTT…my opinion

    • Therein lies the problem…you were a child back when Jay took hip hop singlehandedly by storm and carried it on its shoulders…you could not fathom the sheer power songs like The Streets is Watching carried…or how dominant Roc La Familia was and how the relevance of alot of those records still apply right now…Justify My Thug, that first verse…shyt to live by if you a man who carries a code of ethics/honor in the streets and in life…a young man just starting out in life might miss those gems Jay put out there

    • Reasonable Doubt came out June ’96 and Infinite would be released 5 months later in November. If you like Eminem better, that’s fine, but don’t clown yourself citing hiatuses when he went 5 years between Encore and Relapse and arguably 8 years between actual good albums, The Eminem Show and Recovery. Despite making their debut albums in the same year, Jay-Z has released 14 studio albums to Eminem’s 7. Bringin’ up hiatuses between those two? LOL.

  4. Lol no way in hell is Jay better now than he was then. Secondly Jay was not the best back then. Em lyrically was far better than Jay. Even Prodigy had a better album back then. Canibus on 2000 b.c. was crazy lyrical above all back then. dynasty is crap. I could never picture anyone arguing it one of jay’s best albums. A lot of the songs and concepts were from other roc artists. The song with beans about their dads was the highligh thanks to beans. This can’t be life was ill because of face, beans and ye. Give it to me was a hit single with a partially pharell hook amilio wrote influenced by rick james. 1 900 hustler was hot because it introduced Freeway. Not guilty was just jay claiming he was innocent for something he clearly did, taking subliminal shots @ charli baltimore with an r kelly hook. The best thing about the album was the production. The worst thing about the album was amil.

  5. no way he is better than he was on the dynasty………..squeeze first was…….still is my shit

  6. Honestly jay isn’t the best lyricist, don’t have the best flow, or the best storytelling capability but hes def in the top 10 of like every major category where as some aren’t even in every category i.e. immortal technique he’s got great descriptive rhymes but his flow is not good…jay is the complete package therefore he’s the best

  7. Rakim the cat who gave birth to every rapper style has said it best…Jay hands down is the best on a WHOLE…Rakim the “GOD” MC said that….they are the only two MCs who hold that title (GOD MC) respectively…all your favorite rappers bow down….Em dope but take away the shock value and his whiteness and what do you have left…not much…niggaz say Tyler the Creator is wack but thas because he’s the exact opposite of Em and it sounds dumb coming from a black kid from Compton…Jay embodies every nigga who came from and who still lives the HARDKNOCK LIFE…and his example is a good one…be ya own boss…take care of ya business and ya business will take care of you…nobody spits that shyt like Jay do…when it comes to that hustler’s perspective Jay is the master of that and I’m not just talking cocaine, I’m talking life…I cant speak for nobody else but I fucks with Jay cuz he lyrical and I relate to his subject matter on some personal shyt…not claiming to be a kingpin becuz I wasn’t but I been a hustler since I was 14 so Jay shyt resonates with me…Nas nasty and yeah he jumped in Jay ass with Ether…battling is a sport and we all know…ON ANY GIVEN SUNDAY…Jay still bounced back and kept doing him…Nas won a battle but Jay a winner of the war…there’s a difference….Pac used to be a back up dancer for DU…can not take him too serious though cuz he used to pull his ass out on stage WITH A THONG ON AND HUMP BLOW UP DOLLS ON STAGE…ITS ON YOUTUBE I’M SURE OF IT BUT I SAW IT MYSELF WITH MY OWN TWO EYES LIVE…it was part of the Digital Underground show…so ThugLife aint real to me and talk about doing anything for a shot at fame…did Shock fuck Pac…who knows…plus Pac was always an employee…he got his first felony trying to prove Thug Life was real…when you watch his documentaries he tells you himself the gangsta shyt was too much for him growing up…he never sold drugs, he wasn’t gangbangin, he wasnt robbin, he wasnt a car thief or nothing, he ran wit a bytch and made music videos at the mall while lip syncing wit Jada…nothing gangsta or hood or real nigga shyt bout none of that…but Pac stans swear he was the realest nigga…CUZ HIS MOM WAS A PANTHER…LMAO…he was thebrealest cuz he spit into the newscasters camera….or cuz he did a bunch of dumb shyt to get street cred…he was the first rapper to do dumb shyt to earn the right to talk that gangsta shyt…dun make him gangsta…he was aaiight but he was not real…real niggaz know the truth…part of being real is being able to acknowledge the truth even if it msans that truth defeats your so called truths

  8. Shyne was in my top 5 rappers before he started rapping in that weird voice but he’s spot on.. no other rapper is as well rounded, consistent and empowering as young hov. In my opinion Nas is better lyrically but Jay is more entertaining and witty with his bars.. I have to be in a certain mood to listen to Nas where I can be in any to listen to Jay… throw in the amount of #1 albums and people jay -z has brought through (kanye west, rick ross, rihanna, rita ora, young jeezy etc) compared to Nas ( Quan) Its really no contest
