G-Unit rapper Lloyd Banks has announced the end to his “Blue Fridays” run which consisted of a new weekly record being released up until the debut of his new album, Hunger For More 2.
Although Banks has lived up to his promise of new weekly tracks, he feels this Friday will likely mark the end of his “Blue” series.
“As far as the Blue Fridays go, I’m gonna keep going up until the last Friday,” Banks said in an interview. “So maybe Black Friday, I’ll stop there, but that’s just that phase. I’ll go into a whole new series — I don’t want to name anything yet — I’m definitely going to keep putting out content, it just might not drop on Friday…I think I’ve spoiled people to the point that they expect more than just one song. Maybe I’ll start dropping two songs a day; I’m definitely not gonna go back to the point where I stop supplying the street. I think that was part of the reason for the resistance, is that people know you’re capable of doing it.” (MTV)
In September, Banks announced the launch of “Blue Fridays.”
“I’m not gonna stop putting out mixtape material, I don’t know if I’m gonna put it out in the form of a mixtape,” Banks explained in an interview. “But every Friday, I’ve been releasing a new record. Every Friday for ‘Blue Fridays.’ So I figure we do that for the next eight, nine weeks and by the time the album comes out, [the fans] will have a mixtape if they put it all together.” (WV Soul Magazine)
Prior to the announcement, Banks discussed pausing on dropping mixtapes with G-Unit affiliate DJ Whoo Kid.
“Well Whoo Kid, he’s on like, he’s suspended right now, at the moment,” Banks said in an interview. “I made that guy so much money and did so many mixtapes with him. I put out five mixtapes in a year. He’s been hitting me lately because he knows I’m getting ready to drop, so he’s pressing me for a mixtape but I don’t know man. I know I’m gonna scatter material out so they’re gonna be hearing freestyle material on radio shows, the Internet, sprinkling it all around. But as far as a whole body of work on a mixtape, I don’t know if they gonna get one. I mean, we’ll see how things go but I never stop working on that underground material because it gives me the advantage to speak on current events. Who knows, somebody could speak on Banks tomorrow and something would be out by Friday.” (Civilized Talk)
In August, Kanye West revealed his idea for G.O.O.D. Music Fridays.
“I know yall need the music so I’m dropping 1 new song every weekend until Xmas. It may be my song it may be a new Jay song etc…,” he tweeted in August.
“I’m calling it good Fridays. Yall know every Friday yall gone have a new joint from our family. We look at the game completely different now.” (Kanye West’s Twitter)
