While Cash Money Records has not yet released a statement, the project is now set to drop in August.

April 7. May 19. June 9. June 16. June 23. July 21. Lil Wayne’s Rebirth is hitting the road once again. After constant delays, Weezy’s venture into rock has moved to August 18, Rap-Up.com can confirm. The album had most recently been scheduled for July 21. The last July pushback was reportedly due to sampling problems.

The latest delay is reportedly to give Universal Records more time to get permission for the samples used on the album, Lil Wayne’s seventh solo effort. Confirmed guest stars on Rebirth include Aubrey “Drake” Graham, Fall Out Boy and Lenny Kravitz. The album, which has already spawned lead single “Prom Queen,” is being touted as Lil Wayne’s experimental foray into rock music. (And Pop News)

Reports earlier this year hinted at the project possibly being shelved by Universal.

Universal big wigs are cautious of the rock album release considering the first single from the project, “Prom Queen”, dropped in January but only reached No. 15 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. Lil Wayne’s manager Cortez Bryant has allegedly been advised against letting the star press ahead with the project. A source says, “If Wayne doesn’t brighten up, they have to turn into Mr. Evil Record Company and just tell him it’s never going to be released.” (Examiner)

Weezy recently hinted at what concepts fans could expect from The Rebirth.

“The fans should expect from the new album, more electricity, more more more power, more everything, more me,” Wayne explained in an interview. “But different edge of course, it’s really different from what they’ve been used to but, it’s still me at the end of the day. The influence of the new album is mainly rock, but again, it’s me. So I guess, I guess I’ll call it my rock. Yeah.” (Soundcheck)

The Rebirth is currently scheduled to hit shelves Tuesday, August 18 via Cash Money/Universal Records.
