Young Money’s Shanell aka SNL recently talked about visiting Lil Wayne in jail and discovering what the group leader has been up to behind bars.
Shanell also said Wayne’s time away has caused everyone in Young Money to learn from the situation.
“I’ve been up there a few times,” Shanell revealed in an interview. “Nobody likes to see somebody they care about put in that kind of position so it is hard but like again, he never really shows that side of himself. So when you see him, it’s like, ‘What’s up?’ sits down and talks like we’re at the studio or something. But I think it’s a situation that’s gonna bring everybody a whole lot closer because now, outside of music, we all have to deal with each other in a personal way. So when we’re sitting down speaking, you would think we’re speaking about music but it’s more like, ‘How are you doing?’ — I think that everybody is gonna kinda learn from the situation. He’s been reading and observing. It’s like watching TV in there for him. Wayne is a very, very smart individual and I think he’s watching. He’s acted out each person that he’s come into contact with and it’s crazy to see because I’m watching him turn into one person to the next and next and next. It’s different for him.” (Rap-Up TV)
Young Money’s Drake recently shared his views on Wayne’s impact away from the group.
“His approach with his artists is very trusting, very fearless, and because of that, we have been put out into the world like trying to make people love us for who we are on our own, without Wayne,” Drake explained in an interview. “So with Wayne gone, its possible for me and her (Nicki Minaj) to still thrive. I think that’s the best approach and I respect Wayne so much, because he urged us to be ourselves maybe in anticipation for the day that he’s not here. So we can still be ourselves without him. I don’t need Wayne to be Drake. I’m a better Drake when Wayne is here, but I don’t need Wayne to be Drake. Nicki doesn’t need Wayne to be Nicki. She created Nicki [Minaj]. We’re all a better team when he’s here, but it’s not a necessity. For us, it’s a great thing so we can still carry this movement.” (All Hip Hop)
Drake also said he recently visited Wayne and decided to do a duet album with him.
“I went up to Rikers, and me and Wayne agreed that there will be a Lil Wayne/ Drake album,” Drake told DJ Envy on MTV’s “Sucker Free.” ” … There’s some things I’m excited for in my life — I’m excited to go perform certain places — but [this project] will probably be one of the most exciting things in my life, because we make music on a different level. It’s just so fun, so comfortable. A whole album? To think about all the things we can do, especially if we’re gonna do 15 songs. Me and him don’t like to do 12, 13 [songs]. We want to do 15, 16. Yeah, Lil Wayne and Drake album.” (MTV)
Prior to beginning his one-year jail sentence on a gun conviction, Wayne denied gossip of being romantically linked with Shanell.
“That’s a rumor, sweetheart,” he said. “No, it’s never been a personal thing. As far as us being friends, yeah. That’s my friend. Shanell is a great artist and that’s it, period. She’s a Young Money great artist. I heard a rumor that she was pregnant from me. How could that be? We’ve never had sex. How could she be pregnant from me? You’ve got to have sex to be pregnant. That’s one of the things you have to do. I don’t understand how people’s brains work. You know? I’m a really big person. I’m a real superstar. I’m not afraid to tell you or nobody else, you know? I die every week [according to the rumors]. I’m in jail right now [according to the rumors]. No, [the questions] bothers you, because you have to actually think if it’s true or not and come sit down and ask this dumb a** sh*t. I know you have to feel stupid, because it’s like me sitting here and looking at your [brown] hair and asking you, ‘Since you dyed your hair green, how do you feel?’ Your hair obviously isn’t green.” (Lil Wayne HQ)
