A fire in a New York courthouse caused Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne's jail sentencing to be delayed until tomorrow.
Tuesday afternoon reports confirmed a fire took place in a Manhattan court building.
Eventually, the Rolling Stone cover line “Lil Wayne Goes to Jail” will be correct, but not today. On Tuesday a court spokesman in Manhattan told The Associated Press that sentencing for the rapper Lil Wayne had been postponed because of a basement fire at a courthouse. (New York Times)
The rapper is expected to be sentenced tomorrow if the location does not cause any safey hazards.
Carter was scheduled to be sentenced and jailed on Tuesday afternoon, but the sentencing may be rescheduled Wednesday, according to Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Charles Solomon. The courthouse at 100 Centre Street was closed Tuesday after a fire broke out in the basement around 10:30 a.m. Court employees speculated that the courthouse could also be closed on Wednesday, if not longer. Wayne’s delay marks his second within a month.

His time behind bars stems from a 2007 gun possession case.
He pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon for carrying a loaded gun on his tour bus in July 2007. Carter was supposed to begin his sentence last month, but it was pushed back so he could get dental work done. With good behavior, the hip-hop star could be out of jail in about eight months.
