Lil Wayne’s Ex-Wife Says Daughter Calls Him Daily, “She Talks To Him Every Day After School”

Lil Wayne‘s ex-wife, Antonia “Toya” Carter revealed that the incarcerated rapper has been speaking to his daughter Reginae regularly.

According to Toya, Wayne speaks to their daughter on a daily basis.

“As long as we’ve been talking or dating I’ve never not been able to pick up the phone and call him no matter what is going on in my life,” she said in an interview. “Now he’s locked up and it’s not like that anymore. As far as my daughter, her and her father have a great relationship. She talks to him every day after school. She can still talk to him but now it’s on a schedule with calls. It’s going to be a change for these 8 months.” (Honey Mag)

Toya shared her family’s reaction to the rapper’s one year jail sentence earlier this month.

“It was up and down, you know,” she revealed in an interview. “One minute we thought he was going and she’d be sad and then he don’t go. We [were] in New York like two times and we ended up turning right back around because he didn’t go…The last day he finally went in, we didn’t go, so my daughter was like, ‘I wish I would’ve went.’ It was just too much. I just didn’t want to let her see that again ’cause both times she took it real hard. So I was like, I’m not gon’ let her go this last time. I’m just gon’ make sure he talk to her ’cause I didn’t know if he was really gonna go. They kept pushing back.” (VIBE)

Last October, Toya discussed the relationship she has with Wayne.

“We talk,” she said in an interview. “We have a great relationship. He’s a great father. He tells [our daughter] about [his other kids], so I just go along with the flow. I’m good with all of [his children’s mothers]. I try to keep the kids cool because they’re all in the same situation, so we don’t have time for any drama.” (E! Online)

Wayne began serving his time after multiple delays in early March.

Lil Wayne has been sentenced to a year in jail after pleading guilty in a New York City gun case. The Grammy Award-winning rapper was taken away in handcuffs to start serving his term immediately after his sentencing. He’ll serve his sentence in city jails, not a state prison. He could be released in about eight months with good behavior. (CBS News)
