Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne's much-discussed Tha Carter IV single, "6'7", has finally landed online, and features the Young Money head's return to his famed beatmaker for another hit.
The record leaked onto the Internet Tuesday (December 14) evening and features Young Money’s Cory Gunz.
“6’7” was produced by Bangladesh, who helmed Wayne’s 2008 smash “A Milli,” and revolves around a crazily tweaked sample of the calypso classic “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song),” made famous by Harry Belafonte in 1956. But it’s Wayne (devoid of any auto-tune effects!) that steals the show: The rapper goes on about his charisma (he rhymes with “vodka with a spritzer”), his Young Money posse, and his sexual conquests (it sounds like he’s got a thing for “synchronized swimmers”). The funniest moments come when Wayne boasts about his newfound freedom and his status as one of the best in the game: “You n*ggas are gelatin, peanuts to an elephant?/ I got through that sentence like a subject and a predicate.” (SPIN)
Earlier this year, Young Money CEO Mack Maine announced the title of Wayne’s new single.
Wayne is set to release the first single from his forthcoming Tha Carter IV LP by the end of December, simply titled “6’7″.” “We definitely dropping it before the end of the year,” Mack revealed to MTV News. “We ready to go now; we getting it mixed…Just make sure you all remember two words: Cory Gunz. Incredible.” Cory Gunz, of course, is the latest addition to Young Money and the progeny of late-’90s rapper Peter Gunz. Mack hinted the young MC will appear on “6’7.” (MTV)
Weezy associate DJ Scoob Doo recently described the hard-hitting track as a 2010 version of “A Milli.”
Lil Wayne is out of jail, and as we predicted, it didn’t take long for him to get back into the studio. Lil Wayne said he’d be chock full of material following his visit to Rikers Island, and he’s delivering already. Less than two weeks after Lil Wayne’s release, the rapper was back in the studio, and delivered a track that DJ Scoob Doo called “A 2010 Version Of A Milli..But On Steroids.” (Bloginity)
In September, the rapper’s manager Cortez Bryant said fans could expect revamped tracks on Carter IV.
What’s more, many of the tracks on Human Being, which Wayne cut before going to jail, were “approved” to be included on his hugely anticipated Tha Carter IV but will be released now so that Wayne can fill IV with new music instead. “I know once he got out [of jail] those songs would be so old to him,” Bryant explains. Bryant says the notoriously workaholic Wayne will immediately hit the studio once he gets released and that he will most likely release another mixtape of material before turning his attention to Tha Carter IV, which Bryant now estimates won’t hit stores until next year. “He’s going to probably start from scratch,” says Bryant. “I know how he records–he’s in the studio every single day.
