Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne continues to demonstrate his vast, musical range by teaming up with pop star Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers band for a collaboration.

According to Jonas, Wayne’s interest in remixing the upcoming “Just in Love” track took him by surprise.

“He just jumped on the record, and it’s just super awesome to see that somebody like him would wanna support me,” Jonas told Billboard.com. “It means the world to me, and I love his rap, it’s so dope.” The single was already cut before Weezy lent his verse, so the duo never shared any time in-studio — no weird recording session stories, unfortunately. But Jonas is clearly excited about the cameo. “Somebody like Lil Wayne, who owns the market and who is a powermaker in his genre, supporting me, is really exciting,” he said. (Billboard)

The original track will be featured on Jonas’ upcoming Just in Love LP.

“Just in Love” is confirmed for Joe’s upcoming solo album “Fastlife ” which is coming out in the U.S. on October 11. “This is a song I wrote when I was going through a relationship with somebody,” he said. “She arguing with me, and all I could do was say ‘Listen, I love you, but we don’t need to go through this’.” (Ace Showbiz)

In 2009, the Jonas Brothers showed their respect for hip-hop by collaborating with Chicago rapper Common for their Lines, Vines & Trying Times album.

But perhaps the most surprising moment comes on the song “Don’t Charge Me For the Crime,” which features a guest appearance by, of all people, rapper Common. “A teen on the scene with no objective/ The American Dream can be so deceptive,” Common raps on the track. And the song “Don’t Speak” is supposed to be a homage to the bands U2, Kings of Leon and Muse. All is not edgy in Jonas-world, however. The Common track is followed by “Turn Right,” a ballad with lyrics like “Pick up all your tears/ Throw ’em in your back seat….Just turn right/ Into my arms.” That sound you hear is millions of middle-school girls putting down copies of “Twilight” and sighing. This month, Tha Carter IV contributing producer Willy Will spoke to SOHH about Weezy experimenting with music outside of hip-hop.

“Even when you listen to someone like Lil Wayne, look at his ‘How To Love’ record, that’s one of the top songs in the country right now,” Willy Will told SOHH. “Look at Nicki Minaj‘s ‘Super Bass.’ What you’re seeing is a lot of artists stepping out of their genre. You gotta take the shackles off different genres like pop, rhythmic and those genres allow you to be creative but still be you and heard by the masses. And so like with Lil Wayne, he didn’t go too much out of his range but ‘How To Love’ is not an urban record. It doesn’t even hardly play in many urban stations. So that’s a prime example of being able to step out and be heard, be you, and not have to compromise too much.” (SOHH)
