Lil Wayne Stands Tall On “Carter IV” First Single

Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne‘s upcoming Tha Carter IV is beginning to take shape again with the announcement of the project’s first single.

According to Young Money CEO Mack Maine, Wayne’s first single will drop later this month.

Wayne is set to release the first single from his forthcoming Tha Carter IV LP by the end of December, simply titled “6’7″.” “We definitely dropping it before the end of the year,” Mack revealed to MTV News. “We ready to go now; we getting it mixed.” Lil Wayne insider DJ Scoob Doo compared the track to frenetic fan favorite “A Milli”: “Just Think A 2010 Version Of A Milli…But On [Steroids],” he tweeted. Mack agreed with the comparison, adding, “Just make sure you all remember two words: Cory Gunz. Incredible.” Cory Gunz, of course, is the latest addition to Young Money and the progeny of late-’90s rapper Peter Gunz. Mack hinted the young MC will appear on “6’7.” (MTV)

In September, Wayne’s manager Cortez Bryant said fans could expect revamped tracks.

What’s more, many of the tracks on Human Being, which Wayne cut before going to jail, were “approved” to be included on his hugely anticipated Tha Carter IV but will be released now so that Wayne can fill IV with new music instead. “I know once he got out [of jail] those songs would be so old to him,” Bryant explains. Bryant says the notoriously workaholic Wayne will immediately hit the studio once he gets released and that he will most likely release another mixtape of material before turning his attention to Tha Carter IV, which Bryant now estimates won’t hit stores until next year. “He’s going to probably start from scratch,” says Bryant. “I know how he records–he’s in the studio every single day. That’s his life.” (SPIN)

Prior to Cortez’s remarks, Mack Maine said Carter IV would likely drop on the day Wayne was released from Rikers Island last month.

Tha Carter IV plans we had and still have are to put Tha Carter IV out the day he comes out [of prison],” Mack said in an interview. “He had so many songs for Tha Carter IV, we said let’s just put these 10 songs out [on I Am Not a Human Being] and double-back for Tha Carter IV. He has more songs for Tha Carter IV that are still strong…It’s basically me, him, Baby and [manager] Cortez Bryant mapping it out. We had a listening session out here. It was me, Baby and Cortez. I let [Wayne] know these are the ones we picked. He already picked six of them from back there. I let him hear it over the phone. I book him a studio session — kinda like I did for the ‘Light Up’ up remix with Drake. I book him a studio session and let him listen [to tracks] over the phone. ‘Do you like this one?’ ‘Yeah?'” (MTV)

Earlier this fall, Tha BiznessHenny talked with SOHH about submitting tracks for Carter IV.

“We ended up giving him another CD and on that CD, he recorded to like, 14 of the 18 joints that were on there. So, hopefully some of them go on Tha Carter IV and some of them like the “Getter” joint he did for Michael Phelps, but you never know. He stays working and we stay working. It might be more once he gets out or, you never know, there should be a couple on there.” (SOHH Guest Star)
