Wayne took center stage for his unexpected performance of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” Sunday evening.

Apparently rapper Lil Wayne is a friend of Giants utility man Ryan Theriot, and as such, he sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch in Sunday’s Game 6 of the National League Championship Series. As popular as Lil Wayne is, Twitter blew up for the singing of “God Bless America,” performed by Renee Lubin of San Francisco’s Beach Blanket Babylon. Twitter, of course, exploded with questions about the hat and making fun of it. Many of those people must be new to this whole postseason baseball thing, because two years ago at Game 5 of the NLCS, another cast member of the show sang “God Bless America.” (CBS Sports)

Wayne is reportedly friends with one of the San Francisco Giants players.

If there’s a high-profile sports event going on, chances are strong that rapper Lil Wayne will make his way there. Lil Tunechi was in attendance for Game 6 of the NLCS in San Francisco on Sunday and even sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh-inning stretch. His connection to the Giants is a strange but simple one: he and San Francisco second baseman Ryan Theriot are friends. The two are from Louisiana and are big LSU fans. (Larry Brown Sports)

Second baseman Ryan Theriot also gave his opinion of Weezy’s on-field performance.

After Game 6, Theriot gave a tough assessment of Wayne’s performance: “Well, I heard it,” Theriot said. “We’re going to have to talk about the melody just a touch, a little bit. Know what I mean? His teeth looked good.” Sometimes, it’s your true homies that have to level with you. Yo. Hey, he got the words right, at least. Theriot said he got Wayne tickets to the game and, because of Theriot’s experience with the Cubs booking guest singers for the Seventh Inning Stretch, the rest just fell into place. Theriot, who also contributed a pinch-hit RBI single San Francisco’s 6-1 victory, added that he was “glad” for Wayne that he got to see Ryan Vogelsong dominate for seven innings. Following the song, the Young Money leader hopped on Twitter to give his own post-take.

“Just sung “take me out to the ball game” @ the Giants game!!! A true life highlight! I thank San Fran,” he tweeted Sunday night. (Lil Wayne’s Twitter)
