Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne continues to make weekly fashion statements with the latest one appearing to be his decision to chop off his renowned dreadlocks.

New photos of Weezy F. Baby posed with OutKast’s Big Boi rocking the new hairdo have surfaced, but in actuality, his hair is just pulled back.

We never thought this day would come. Lil Wayne has been growing his long dreadlocks ever since his career launched with the Hot Boyz back in the early 2000s, and while it looked like he cut them off, he actually fooled us all. The Carter IV rapper hung out with Big Boi yesterday, and it looked like he was rocking a new short-haired look, but he in reality, he is just growing out his dreads even more while they are pulled back. Wayne is most known for sporting dreadlocks for nearly a decade and even rapping about them in songs.

The star, who has been a rap prodigy since the tender age of 11 has been so attached to his hair, he’s even mentioned the ‘do in several songs. In the Ester Dean song Drop it low remix with Chris Brown, he croons, “Hair to the back, Hat to the front,” and in his song I’m Single, he raps, “dreads braided to the back, Im chillin but my swag on full attack.” So it’s obvious Wayne has always been attached to his hair. Something else the superstar is famous for: his tatoos. “Tattoos are just a way of expressing myself. Me being me. I just went crazy. I don’t know what happened. I think somebody slipped something in my drink, like a drug that’ll make you get, like, a bunch of tattoo,” he told GQ. (Hollywood Life)

Just a few weeks ago, Wayne inked a new facial tattoo onto his head.

You know what they say: “New year, new face tattoo.” At least that’s what Lil Wayne says. The rapper-turned-skateboarder decided to pay homage to skateboard company Baker the best way he knows how–by tattooing the word “baked” on his forehead. Weezy, who already has stars, a lightning bolt and teardrops (among other things) tattooed on his noggin, chose the area above his right eye for his new ink because… that’s the only place he has left? Back in fall 2011, rapper Murs spoke to SOHH about getting rid of his iconic dreadlocks and boasted about Weezy still rocking his.

“Maybe it was the time,” Murs told SOHH, referring to the popular trend of artists cutting off their long hair. “Lil Wayne still has it and he’s the king. Or he’s the king of the young people I should say. It definitely had a lot to do with me, learning about myself. To me, it puts more pressure to stand out more from the action of my words rather than just the hairstyle. A lot of people think I smoke weed [because of the stigma associated with long locks].” (SOHH)
