In Weezy’s eyes, the leak showed his album is in mass demand.

“We did real good this time, real good,” Wayne told MTV News correspondent Jim Cantiello after his show-closing performance at the VMAs in L.A. on Sunday. “It just means people want to hear it,” he said. “I mean, ’cause there’re people’s albums that come out that can be leaked and don’t leak, so I’m glad mines leaked.” (MTV)

Young Money president Mack Maine has also provided his take on the prerelease leak.

“I think we should still do well,” Mack Maine told MTV News on Sunday. “The leak shouldn’t have affected it that much. Actually, this is the first time that the albums leaked so close [to the release date]. Tha Carter III leaked two weeks before and we still did [1 million] the first week. So if history repeats itself, we shouldn’t have any problems.” (MTV)

Wayne’s album illegally landed online days prior to its official release last Monday (August 29).

After numerous delays and countless singles, Lil Wayne’s new album ‘Tha Carter IV’ has finally arrived, albeit, thanks to a massive leak onto the Internet. It’s a solid effort but not better than his previous disc ‘Tha Carter III.’ The most surprising aspect of the album is that most of the producers the Young Money leader worked with on the album are relatively unknown. Beatmakers Willy Will, T-Minus, Street Runners, Snizzy, MegaMan and others did a great job with giving Weezy the kind of gritty production he needs for his gruff rhymes. (Pop Crush)

As things stand today (September 2), Wayne’s LP is projected to sell nearly a million copies in its first week.

The prolific hip-hop superstar’s eagerly awaited Cash Money/Universal Republic album, Tha Carter IV, hit retail last Monday and is on target for sales of 870-900k in its first week. Based on first-day sales from those retailers not selling corn dogs to Tea Party candidate Michele Bachmann, the album will easily debut at #1 on next week’s HITS chart. The rapper’s last installment in the series, Tha Carter III, sold 1.005m on release in June, 2008. (HITS Daily Double)
