Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne has responded to comments made this week by Kanye West, where he proclaimed Weezy F. Baby the hottest hip-hop artist in the game right now.
Flattered by the huge co-sign, Wayne thanked Mr. West for publicly bigging him up.
“That’s the ultimate compliment coming from a humble, great, extremely creative,& superior genius…I appreciate that Yeezy!,” Wayne tweeted late March 5th night. (Lil Wayne’s Twitter)
Last night, Yeezy included Wayne as one of the best rap stars in the music biz.
Not that he was expecting the top spot: In West’s opinion, the world’s No. 1 rapper is Lil Wayne. “Yeah, I just think… him and [Jay-Z] and [Eminem] and certain people are just the greatest rappers of all time,” he said. (Billboard)
Lil Wayne hooked up with Mr. West for his new I Am Not A Human Being II album cover art.
“(Kanye) said, you know, man, let me do your cover. I saw the cover and I approved it. He had an explanation behind it – he said, he chose the moth butterfly thing because it has so many different stages of life, and it goes through so many forms and changes, and no one can figure it out, and it’s always beautiful. At a time it’s ugly and at a time it’s beautiful too. And that’s me.” (NOLA)
Back in 2009, Weezy F. Baby defended calling himself the best rapper alive.
“Today there’s a lot of entertainers that don’t know about the grind,” Wayne said in an interview… “I didn’t get no flack from [saying ‘Best Rapper Alive’], of course from the haters, I mean from the man, Jay, he propped me up when he see. He gave me a lot of confidence to put a new song out called ‘Greatest Rapper Alive’ on my album and motivation was already there. And I felt I had to do whatever I had to do talent-wise to make it what it was.” (Music Choice)
