Lil Wayne Makes Very Important Change To “Amerika” Music Video [Video]

Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne made a conscious decision to limit, if not totally eliminate, backlash for his new "God Bless Amerika" music video by completely ridding it of his flag-stomping incident.

Despite the original footage showing Weezy stepping over the US flag, the long-awaited music video is clearly edited.

Lil Wayne has decided … the images of the rapper trampling the American flag during a music video shoot were NOT good enough for the final cut … ’cause they’ve been edited OUT of the final version. Just last month, Wayne caught a TON of heat during the filming of the video for his new song “God Bless Amerika” when a giant American flag was dropped on the ground — only to be walked all over by Wayne. Wayne insisted he didn’t step on the flag on purpose … but he didn’t really have an excuse for dropping the flag on the ground in the first place (a major no-no). But when the final cut for “God Bless Amerika” was released yesterday, the unpatriotic images didn’t make the cut … and during the flag dropping scene, the shot is edited in a way that you never see Old Glory touch the ground. While the video was initially pulled from most websites, some write-ups gave readers an idea of what the clip has to offer.

Lil Wayne released the video for “God Bless Amerika” on Monday night, a clip full of images of Wayne’s native Hollygrove, New Orleans. The community, still devastated by 2005’s Hurricane Katrina, serves as a poignant reminder of the failures of America’s government to rehabilitate impoverished communities that were damaged by the monstrous storm. The video suggests that it’s not all that hard to draw a line from Kanye West‘s criticism at the time (“George Bush doesn’t care about black people”) to the continued travesty that is the reality of life on the ground in Hollygrove. A few days ago, the clip’s teaser started to make its way across the Internet.

Lil Wayne shows his stars and stripes in the video for “God Bless Amerika,” a cut off his album I Am Not a Human Being II. The Eif Rivera-directed clip was shot in his hometown of New Orleans last month. Weezy sports a “Jesus Saves, I Spend” tank top and Trukfit hat as he performs in front of an American flag on the streets of Hollygrove. (Rap-Up)

Around mid-June, Weezy F. Baby said the whole flag-stomping incident was a misunderstanding.

“I didn’t step on the flag on purpose! It’s a scene in a video where the flag drops behind me and after it drop it’s just there as I perform,” Wayne tweeted Tuesday (June 18). (Lil Wayne’s Twitter)
