Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne‘s popular Twitter account was hacked this weekend and caused his 1 million followers confusion over controversial tweets.
Details on the hack landed online Sunday (January 16) evening.
Lil Wayne became the latest victim of hackers on Twitter earlier today (January 16th), when his account was compromised by an unknown individual. As soon as the individual gained access to Wayne’s account, the rapper’s original name of “@liltunechi” was changed to “@LilChinetu” and a series of tweets started going out to Wayne’s 1,268,468 followers. The first message questionable message went out to 50 Cent, but the hacker soon directed his insults to Atlanta rapper Soulja Boy. “I sent a donations to your paypal, check it, I heard you got 13,000 sales lil homie, i feel bad for you! #D*mnSoulja” “The real reason I made 6’7 is cuz that’s how tall the ni**a in rikers was that raped me,” the individual tweeted about Lil Wayne to the shock of his fans. “I went an entire year with kissing baby #withdrawls,” the next message read. Young Money’s Lil Twist also confirmed the account has been tampered with.
“They have hacked my brother twitter once again….. Wow… smfh. Well O’ Well… No more TUNECHI ON TWITTER!!#YoungMoney,” Twist tweeted Sunday.

While Wayne served a one-year jail sentence for a gun conviction last year, Twist revealed he was in charge of the rap star’s Twitter account.
“He calls me,” Twist said. “He lets me know what he wants me to update from time and time. Every time he calls, I update everything he wants. That’s my heavy connection to his blog site…That’s a hard job. But I am that…Me and Wayne, we’re like brothers. He really took me in. He taught me how to do everything, he taught me the music business,” Twist added. “We got a strong brother bond.” (MTV)
Prior to serving the sentence, Wayne explained his Twitter account’s name.
“Three days, y’all — let’s party!” Lil Wayne said in the footage on Saturday (February 27). “This is for my real fans. People who wanna know what I be doin’. I’mma let y’all in. I just opened that [Twitter] up. I got almost 200,000 followers. I need more followers. I saw Drake had like 400,000 followers. I need more followers than Drake. My nickname is Lil Tune — my grandmother named me that. She’s passed. My grandmother, her name was Mercedes Carter. She named me Lil Tune. We just threw the ‘Chi’ on there. Like Gucci, I say ‘Tunechi!'” (MTV)
