Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne discusses his attitude toward Miami Heat players LeBron James and Dwayne Wade in the new issue of Rolling Stone.
Within the feature, Weezy questions the Heat stars’ refusal to acknowledge his presence during a recent game against his home team.
When Wayne sat court-side at a recent Miami Heat/New Orleans Hornets game he was upset that Lebron James and Dwayne Wade never came over to talk to him. “Them n*ggas never speak to a n*gga,” he says. “They don’t chuck me the deuce or nothing. N*gga spent all that money on them f*cking tickets … Come holla at me. We sit right by them little b*tch-a** n*ggas. At least come ask me why I’m not rooting for you.” (Rolling Stone)
After James joined the Heat last summer, Wayne penned a blog entry from jail speaking on his expectations for the revamped NBA Florida team.
“Oh Lebron! The recent move by the Miami Heat confirms that we will someday soon have that good ole basketball back with all due respect to the Lakers-Celtics 7 game series. This move reminds me of the days when it was Johnson, Worthy, and Jabar vs. Bird, Parrish, and McHale, or Thomas, Dumars, and Lambeer. Well now we have Bryant, Gasol, Bynum, and Pierce, Allen, Garnett, and ultimately, Wade, Bosh, and James! Do expect this to become “protocol” to win an NBA title. As for many more teams have and will be stacking their rosters with stars. I believe that this Miami team will be explosive as intended. Anything less than an NBA championship title will be uncivilized. 72-10 anybody?” (Weezy Thanx You)
Once James made his televised announcement, artists like Rick Ross shared their enthusiasm over the revelation.
In the footage, which was shot by Ross’ video director Spiff TV, Ross, hearing James reveal his plans, jumps up as if he were watching the former #23 make a game-winning shot in the seventh game of the NBA finals. Ross, wearing a black T-shirt, jumps out of his seat with his eyes and mouth wide open and both his arms extended with his hands balled up in fists. (MTV)
Following the buzz, basketball fanatic/producer 9th Wonder talked to SOHH and analyzed James’ speculated impact on the Heat last summer.
“We could follow players back then because you weren’t only following Magic but the Lakers’ dynasty too,” 9th added. “Now it’s harder because everyone wants a dollar. With LeBron, I wish he would have stayed in Cleveland, I know it’s kinda hard for him under the circumstances but I think it’s a situation where he could have built a dynasty there. You’ve been there six years, Jordan was in Chicago for seven. They keep comparing him to that benchmark. Everybody wants him to make the noise and make the impact that he did but don’t want to work hard like the way he got it. Now it’s a situation where he’s down in Miami and they can pull it off. Now if they ‘don’t’ pull it off, if you go down there and you got Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, three big superstars down there, and you don’t pull it off, there’s something wrong. You have to win everything. There are no [excuses].” (SOHH)
