Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne has reportedly fallen victim to the power of the Internet after a viral video announced his passing at the age of 31 this week.
According to reports, the death hoax had Weezy F. Baby losing his life through a drug overdose.
Is Lil Wayne dead? A viral video clip being shared around Facebook and Twitter titled, “R.I.P – RAPPER LIL WAYNE FOUND DEAD!” has fans of the artist concerned that perhaps the rapper really has died this time. Fortunately it’s not true. Once again Lil Wayne has become the victim of a worn out death hoax which has struck him on multiple occasions. This go around it’s unclear how the rumor got started, but apparently some are saying it involved a drug overdose from snorting too much cocaine. Many of the fake stories about Lil Wayne dying have been focused around car crashes, so this one, in combination with the fake video is somewhat new. (iDesign Times)
Additional reports claim most viewers had to share the hoax clip via social outlets like Facebook before they could access it.
Thankfully, Lil Wayne is alive and creating some new awesome music for his fans, despite a newly surfaced video that claims the rapper was found dead after suffering a terrible seizure. The “R.I.P. Lil Wayne” video also may be more viral than intended! The “tribute video” to the rapper actually requires users to share it to Facebook before they can view it, which is a known spam template and can cause computer viruses. (Hollywood Life)
Earlier this year, Wayne revealed his frequent battles with seizures.
“The bad news is I’m an epileptic, I’m prone to seizures. Like, this isn’t my first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh seizure. I’ve had a bunch of seizures, y’all just never hear about them. … Basically, I could’ve died, so that is why it was so serious. But the reason being for the seizures is just plain stress, no rest, overworking myself.” (Power 106 FM)
A couple years ago, Young Money’s Nicki Minaj spoke on Weezy F. Baby remaining drug-free.
“Clearer than ever,” Minaj said referring to Lil Wayne’s state of mind. “It’s like talking to him, he’s like a new person. Like, um, he’s nicer. He’s more calm. I don’t know. I guess when you’re not getting high, it just, you have to deal with reality and I think he likes his reality now. He’s really super appreciative and you know, I don’t know. The couple times I’ve seen him, it’s just, a joy to be around…He’s easier to get along with and easier to talk to, I feel now.” (Tim Westwood TV)
