Lil Wayne & Denzel Washington Suit Up For MTV Movie Awards 2009

Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne and Denzel Washington have been announced to appear at the upcoming MTV Movie Awards later this month.

The “Greatest Rapper Alive” will reportedly hit the stage as one of the ceremony’s star-studded presenters.

Lil Wayne, Denzel Washington, Cameron Diaz, Leighton Meester, Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell, Vanessa Hudgens and Jonah Hill will appear live on Sunday, May 31, at 9 p.m. ET for the 18th annual awards show. Viewers will be able to decide the Golden Popcorn winners in each category by visiting by May 27 to vote for their favorite films and actors. Voting in the Best Movie category will stay open through the live telecast, meaning any craziness that takes place onstage has the chance to affect the outcome. (MTV)

Eminem will also make his comeback performance at the event.

Airing live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California, Eminem will join others scheduled to perform. Andy Samberg will host. On Monday (April 13), viewers will be able to vote online and on their mobile phones to select the nominees for the 18th annual Movie Awards. On May 4, the nominees will officially be announced, and viewers will once again be able to vote for their favorites online and from their mobile phones. (SOHH)

This year’s showcase will feature a variety of nominated films.

Films up for awards include The Dark Knight, Highschool Musical 3: Senior Y ear, Iron Man, Slumdog Millionaire, Twilight, Wanted, Bride Wars, The Reader, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Eagle Eye, Hanna Montana: The Movie, Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist, Role Models, Pineapple Express, Yes Man, Get Smart and more. MTV previously expressed their anticipation of the event’s host Andy Samberg putting on an impressive showcase.

“Andy’s connection with the MTV audience is so strong…it’s electric,” Stephen Friedman, General Manager of MTV, explained on the choosing of Samberg as host. “The Lonely Island’s digi-shorts are genius. We can’t wait to see what subversive take he’ll have on our audience’s favorite movies of the year.
