The Canadian security for Lil’ Wayne‘s “I Am Music” concert tonight (January 14) says they will be on the look out for various gangs.
The rapper is currently on his nationwide tour.
Critically acclaimed Cash Money/Universal Motown Records recording artist Lil Wayne kicked-off the “I Am Music Tour” on December 14th in Miami. T-Pain, Keyshia Cole, Gym Class Heroes, Gorilla Zoe and Keri Hilson have joined him on the road. (Hip Hop Press Release)
However, tonight’s performance has stirred concern from Montreal authorities.
Police suspect Lil’ Wayne and his tough-talking lyrics could attract many members of Montreal’s various street gangs to the Bell Centre. “In the past, we’ve had problems in front of the theatre where [rap] concert[s] took place, and so you can be sure we’ll be present,” said police spokesman Sgt. Ian Lafreniere. In 2004, a man was shot several times outside the Bell Centre after a concert by rapper 50 Cent. The man survived because he was wearing a bullet-proof vest. (CBC News)
Following his tour, Weezy has been billed to perform at the upcoming Grammy awards.
Lil Wayne, the Jonas Brothers, Coldplay, Kenny Chesney and Katy Perry are the first performers announced for the 51st annual Grammy Awards, to be held Feb. 8 at Los Angeles’ Staples Center and broadcast on CBS. Each of the performers are nominated for awards; Lil Wayne leads the field with nods in eight categories. (Billboard)
