Incarcerated rapper Lil Wayne has reportedly been busted for possessing unauthorized music contraband while behind bars in Rikers Island.
Details on the discovery landed online Tuesday (May 11) evening.
Lil Wayne is up to his ears in trouble in prison — after he was reportedly busted during an early morning search with a pair of earphones and an iPod charger … a big no-no at Rikers Island. Wayne — who’s serving a one-year stint for a gun charge — will be charged with an infraction for being in possession of “music contraband.” (TMZ)
Sources close to the situation have also shed light on what went down.
“He was found with a charger for an MP3 player and unauthorized earphones,” in his Rikers Island cell, a source said. Authorities seized the music pieces at 8 a.m. after a prison rat tipped off officers, who found the music contraband in foil and a bag stuffed in Lil Wayne’s trash. (New York Daily News)
Prior to going to Rikers, Wayne publicly announced an interest in continuing his music career from jail.
Ironically, before Wayne went behind bars, the rapper told Rolling Stone that he planned to keep working while in prison: “I’ll have an iPod, and I’ll make sure they keep sending me beats.” Guess the lack of one turned out to be more a burden than he could bear–no surprise for a guy who recorded at all hours of the day and night back when he was a free man. He has now been in jail for over two months.
The hip-hop star began serving a year-long sentence at New York’s Rikers Island prison in March (10) after pleading guilty to gun possession charges.Wayne has been hit by four separate lawsuits since he was locked up – all stemming from allegations the Lollipop hitmaker owes royalties to several producers.
