Lil Wayne Admits Nicki Minaj Went Pop To Prove Herself: “[Now She’s] Going Back To Her Roots”

Young Money head Lil Wayne recently talked about Nicki Minaj's upcoming The Pinkprint album and said fans could expect a return to her hip-hop roots.

In Wayne’s perspective, Nicki is going back to her lyrical hip-hop style on the LP.

“Her going back to her roots. Bar for bar straight lyrical content. Honestly, don’t know what to expect because she can be unpredictable at times when she gets in the studio. She’s grown a lot. The last album was showing her versatility—how she can make a straight hood/club banger and at the same time, still be dominant in the pop industry. Now that she has tested the waters all she’s doing now is going back to where she enjoyed best.” (Complex)

Check out what impressed Wayne the most about Pinkprint…

Weezy F. Baby also revealed how much of the album he had heard.

“Honestly, I haven’t heard much. I don’t really go into the studio while she recording. From what I’ve heard I’m impressed on her metaphors. It’s like she’s painting pictures on some of these records.” (Complex)

Nicki jumped onto her Instagram page earlier this month to deliver her upcoming Pinkprint album cover and release date.

  1. Wack cover and lil homie she was never real hip hop like Lil Kim. She will never be the Queen B of Hip hop because she is straight up Pop just like Rihanna and Eminem. Plain and and simple. Her shit is straight trash at all levels my Nukka!

    • Damn a man hating on a female this hard? Nigga pull your skirt up your pussy is showing. Before nicki starting doing pop she use to kill all her future and mixtapes, Kim is wash n big wrote her shit

      • Damn a boy hating on Kim hard. Faggot, pull your skirt up your pussy lips are sagging out.

      • But the females want to be treated equal like real hip hop niggas…so I equally evaluate both. As you can see, I hated on Eminem as well. Dude Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Da Brat, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Rah Digga, Roxanne Shante did not get a pass. They rapped equally like the brothers! That is why true hip hop niggas always mention their names. They are legendary. Nikki will never be known for any hard album. Please name me one! You get it! You like her because she has a big ass! There are lil homies like you that destroy our music by supporting Nikki on that Pop shit! Even lil Wayne is saying that shit to you homie! He admit to in a different way but I said it plain and simple. Of Course, he does not want to hurt her records sale but let the truth be told homie! Nikki is a Pop Artist!

        • Name one rapper that mainstream artist from Jay-z, em, wayne, Kanye etc that don’t have pop records. they make them bc it sells and is require of them to do by records labels. You have to get the radio/crossover records of you wanna be a big name in the game.

          • That is a sign of weakness homie! The guys that you mention I do not like at all except Jay Z. He is still in my top 4 but he is slipping up in my top 5 dead or alive category because of all the Pop shit for the past few years. We all notice this shit! All the street dudes! Do you know how hard Jay was? His shit now is as weak as dirty dish water. You see homie, the guys you mention I don’t “F” with period! They are Pop artist! They are no different than Officer Ricky Ross.

I won’t purchase no pop corny, fake, wack ass shit with my hard working money! For you, go for it! Most rappers would say that Nikka is strictly a pop artist homie. Only lil girls and pop lil white kids will play that shit! Go for it homie!

  2. her guest appearences were fire ..smashed no flex zone and dat young thug joint..queens chick gettn money..cant hate

  3. One of her first interviews she said she wanted to gear her music more to Pop then hip hop. She sold out before she began.
