Brooklyn rap veteran Lil’ Kim recently shared her thoughts on the New York hip-hop scene and why she has remained relevant for 20 years.

In Queen Bee’s perspective, the music scene goes through continual changes.

“The one thing people need to understand is that in music, everything moves in cycles. Just be patient and wait your moment. That’s why we just had Lil Kim Season. You’re in season; you may be out of season for a little bit; everyone comes around full circle. You have to know when the music is changing, and it’s coming full circle. I always reinvent myself. I’ve never left the scene; I’ve never missed a beat. I was always in the clubs; I was always at somebody’s show; I was always in the midst of it. So I feel like a new artist sometimes to people – that’s a blessing. New York music is definitely making its way back – it’s a blessing.” (Rolling Stone)

Kim recently put out her new Lil’ Kim Season mixtape.

Last month, the Queen Bee discussed putting sex-related lyrics into her music.

“All of my albums have never, never, never not had a sexy song on there. No matter what. I could be cracking jokes on one of my verses then out of nowhere you’re going to hear a sexy line. That’s just me. That’s how I talk in real life. But “#Mine” to me has that sexy feel even though it’s still gangsta. It’s gangtsta love.” (EW)

Recently, Kim talked about working with former NFL champion Bryant McKinnie on new music.

“I respect Bryant’s energy and input. When I really started to listen to him I realized that he really knows music and gives you nothing but real talk when you ask his opinions.” McKinnie isn’t exactly producing Kim’s new album … he says he’s acting in more of an “A&R capacity” but the Queen Bee says he knows what’s hot in music … because he’s the king of the Miami club scene.
