Brooklyn rapper Lil Kim has cleared the air on a recent war of words between her camp and music newcomer Azealia Banks, shooting down accusations of wanting the "212" hitmaker to pen her records.

Talking to New York radio station Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club,” Kim addressed the hype once and for all.

“I never met this girl a day in my life,” she told co-hosts DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha God and Angela Yee. “I never talked to this chick, she don’t know what I sound like. I don’t know what she sound like on the phone. I think it’s in chicks’ contracts when they come out, you gotta go at Lil’ Kim.” (“The Breakfast Club”)

In early May, Banks hopped on Twitter and accused Kim of sparking a rift.

“Okay so true tea is that Lil Kim got mad that I wrote a verse for her on a record I wanted her on.,” she tweeted Sunday (May 6).

“Everyone knows Lil Kim doesn’t write her own raps and I saw this as a faster more efficient way of getting the track done.”

“She then had her assistant write me some long a** offensive email about how Lil Kim writes her own raps and doesn’t need anyone’s help.” (Lil Kim’s Twitter)

This preceded an extensive statement released on Kim’s behalf through a representative.

“My client and azealia have NEVER spoke to one another or met AT ALL. Kim was actually very flattered azealia’s public admiration for her, which is why it’s so hard to understand how someone who claims to be a true Lil Kim fan could flip the script so easily on someone who was supposedly their idol. It is also VERY interesting that NO ONE from her team made any attempts to reach out to anyone from our team to voice any concerns or problems that they may have had. I have NEVER heard of anyone having a conflict with someone they have NEVER met with or personally spoke with. We have no idea what they are referencing and have no desire to discuss the matter any further as there is nothing to talk about. It honestly seems that someone from azealia’s team would rather have her fans buy into manufactured drama instead of buying music.” [sic] (All Hip Hop)

The whole situation reportedly stemmed from the female emcees initially having plans to work together.

About two weeks ago, rap fans were excited to hear that the 20-year-old announced a possible collaboration with the Queen Bee. Whether it was for her debut album Broke With Expensive Taste or a mixtape track, the pair could have cooked up a nice clash of Harlem meets Brooklyn. Banks even gushed over the hip-hop icon, tweeting, “Most female Rappers are Lil Kim stans but just don’t know it.” Sounds like things were going according to plan. From Banks’ tweets last Friday (May 4), there has been some sort of fallout. Although she didn’t state Kim specifically, you can make the connection that something happened behind-the-scenes.
