Boosie cited the drug’s knack for sparking addiction to getting him to support its removal.

Boosie tells TMZ he nearly died 3 or 4 times from drinking lean and says it’s “f***ed up a lot of rappers and the culture of hip hop.” He says users don’t realize something that tastes like Kool-Aid can be so addictive. Boosie was reacting to the story we broke … that Actavis is ceasing production of its high-end cough syrup because it’s being widely abused to make lean, also known as sizzurp. The rapper — who tells us he’s clean now — spent 5 years behind bars on drug charges, including time for trying to smuggle codeine syrup into prison. (TMZ)

Familiar with the situation, Atlanta’s Soulja Boy boasted about his own cough syrup stash via Instagram this week.

“Soulja got the juice. They say the streets dry I say you gotta be kiddin me. I serve everybody,” SB wrote April 21. (Soulja Boy’s Instagram)

Last year, pop star Justin Bieber lashed out over alleged syrup-drinking photos.

Justin Bieber is shooting down rumors that he engaged in risky behavior, allegedlydrinking “sizzurp” while partying with friends Lil Twist and Lil Za. TMZ first reported that they’ve seen photos of the 18-year-old pop star with a bottle of codeine cough syrup, known as “sizzurp,” nearby. Justin tweeted on Feb. 2, “Some of these rumors about me are getting a little out of control now. Don’t believe the [bulls**t]. Gonna focus on the positive. I understand that rumors come with the territory, but I’m gonna stay me. Focus on the music. U wanna know what im about…it is all right there.” (Hollywood Life)
