Lecrae jumped onto his Twitter page to thank fans for their support.

The hip-hop heavyweight sold this many copies in his opening week…

With a full week under his belt, Lecrae sold just under 90,000 copies.

The Houston native earns his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with Anomaly, which sold 88,000 copies in its first week. It marks the Grammy winner’s sixth No. 1 on the Gospel Albums chart and his fifth Christian Albums chart-topper. Lecrae has released seven studio albums since his 2005 debut Real Talk and sold 1.4 million albums to date. (Rap-Up)

Reach Records’ Trip Lee spoke to SOHH about his labelmate’s huge sales projections.

“It’s exciting. For one, I knew he was going to do crazy numbers because his music connects with people in a special way. Lecrae has been working for so long and he’s been grinding for so long. Anomaly is an incredible record and I’m very excited for him. It’s a great record. In terms of his skills as a hip-hop artist and as a writer, I think he’s up there with all the dudes that are most popular right now. He’s incredible. It’s like another win for our movement. That’s one of the things about Lecrae, he doesn’t just want to get his music out there. We have this whole 116 movement and I feel like it’s a win for us.” (SOHH)

Based on one-day estimates, Lecrae’s LP was expected to sell up to 80,000 records

  1. This is an awesome first week for a Gospel Artist who gets almost zero airplay on most Gospel stations and absolutely no airplay on secular stations. It’s also a great project, good beats and flow.
