R&B veteran Lauryn Hill has hooked up with hip-hop mogul Jay Z‘s growing TIDAL streaming service for an inaugural music festival.
Hill broke the news to her Twitter followers last night (April 13).

According to reports, Hill secretly launched her three-day charity festival last night (April 13) at Brooklyn, New York’s Kings Theatre.
The festival will “present a series of events, focusing on various forms of visual art, and featuring performances by artists from Africa, and throughout the African diaspora.” Performers on April 15 include Hill, Machel Montano (Trinidad), Stephen “Ragga” Marley (Jamaica), Stonebwoy (Ghana), and more. The theatre’s lobby is being transformed into an art gallery. (Pitchfork)
Lauryn has since released a statement on the new event.
“Diaspora Calling! is a collection of works intended to celebrate the rich tapestry of artists from the African Diaspora while also illumining persistent and irrepressible themes… Even if we work independently, we are a resounding collective voice, both reconciling and embracing our relationship to history, our origins, our future and to ourselves.” (Statement)
Various musicians are slated to take the stage Friday (April 15).
Hill’s sold out headline concert at the venue this Friday (April 15) will become the inaugural Diaspora Calling!
