West Coast rapper Kurupt has released a statement in light of losing the mother of his ten year-old son Tren Brown heading into the weekend from a horrific car accident.
In his statement, Kurupt acknowledged how big of a loss Natina Reed‘s death has had on him.
Though they never married, Tha Dogg Pound rapper and Reed were engaged in the early 2000s and have a 10-year-old son, Tren Brown, together. Reed, who was crossing a street when she was struck, died two days shy of her 33rd birthday. On Sunday evening (October 28), Kurupt (born Ricardo Emmanuel Brown) expressed his profound loss and extended his gratitude for the outpouring of well-wishes in a statement to MTV News. “Myself and Tren, Natina’s son, would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this tragic time,” he said. “This is a tremendous loss to our family. Natina was a great person and I wish everyone had the opportunity to meet her and know her as I did.” (MTV)
R&B group Blaque group members Shamari Fears-DeVoe and Brandi Williams have also issued a statement.
“We are devastated by the loss of our group member, sister and friend Natina Reed. Because of the enormous support of Blaque fans and our love for each another, Blaque officially reunited this fall and we were in the process of working on a new album and a reality show. Natina continuously embodied the pioneering spirit of Blaque and her undeniable creativity touched the hearts of fans everywhere. Natina was a mother, sister, accomplished songwriter, artist and friend. We ask for your prayers at this time for Natina’s family. She will forever be missed and her global influence eternally felt. Reports of Reed’s passing made headlines Saturday evening.
Natina Reed, a member of the 90s R&B group Blaque, was killed in Georgia last night after being struck by car. She was 32. According to the Gwinnett Police Department, the driver of the vehicle that hit Reed called 911 at 10:30 PM last night. She was pronounced dead at Gwinnett Medical Center 29 minutes later. A press release said that Reed “was in the roadway on Lawrenceville Highway near Hamilton Road when struck.” (TMZ)
