Grammy-nominated rapper Kid Cudi has pleaded guilty to a drug possession charge he received after being arrested in New York City over the summer.
Details on the plea were revealed online Monday (September 27) afternoon.
Kid Cudi pleaded guilty to misdemeanor drug possession Friday in a New York City court stemming from his June bust . A spokeswoman with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office tells E! News that the 26-year-old hip-hopster, real name Scott Mescudi, copped to criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and was sentenced to two days of community service. He also must stay out of trouble for the next six months and show proof of his community service at a March hearing. (E! Online)
The rapper was arrested in early June for drug possession in New York City.
TMZ has learned Kid Cudi was arrested in NYC today for felony criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance. Sources say Kid took a 24-year-old woman’s phone and slammed it to smithereens. He also allegedly broke the door of her apartment off its hinges. Cops arrived and found a glass bottle of a controlled substance. (TMZ)
Recently, the rapper admitted to previously having a drug problem.
“I started doing cocaine to get through interviews, ’cause people wanted to know a lot about my personal life and I wasn’t prepared for a 60 Minutes interview every time. Doing bumps I was able to get through the day, but then I would smoke weed to calm me down–it was the only way I could get through the day without people noticing I was doing it… never thought it was a problem, but I was definitely high-fiving death a couple of times. It took a lot for me to talk about sh*t like this on the album. I don’t feel like I need to explain myself to anyone besides the fans. My fans don’t believe sh*t until they hear me say it. And those are true Kid Cudi fans. I want them to know the story.” (Complex)
Reflecting on his short time behind bars, Cudi shared his admiration toward artists like Lil Wayne and T.I. who have spent months in jail for convictions earlier this year.
“If I’m gonna be going to jail, I’m not gonna be doing this no more,” Cudi says, adopting a childlike voice, masking the incident’s seriousness. “I had a newfound respect for T.I. and [Lil] Wayne. I only spent 15 hours in there! I was scared straight, going through the shakes, having no food, being held captive. It didn’t matter who I was in the world.” (Rap Radar)
