Grammy-nominated rapper Kid Cudi has defended his image as an "emotional" rapper and said there are more well-known street-based emcees who could be categorized the same way.

From Cudi’s perspective, there is nothing wrong with packing raps with emotions.

“DMX is emo and he’s one of the realest n*ggas in the game. Emotion is what hip-hop thrives on. Don’t you want your music to have emotion in it? People like to always throw some negative cloud over it. Doesn’t even make sense. Jeezy is emo. When that n*gga be rapping, you feel it. You know that n*gga’s talking some real sh*t…People are quick to judge my singles one by one, and when the album drop, those be the a**holes that are like, ‘Oh sh*t, I totally underestimated Cudi, this sh*t is crazy.’ I told you, dumb**: You can’t look at snippets from an Oliver Stone film and be able to critique it.” (Complex)

Cudi is currently putting together his upcoming Man on the Moon 2 album.

“Man, uh, when it comes to features, I kinda just stick to my homies,” Cudi said in an interview. “My peoples, Chip Tha Ripper, GLC [who is] a G.O.O.D. Music affiliate, got my boy Cage over there, and Mary J. Blige on the album. Uh, you know, we got Cee-Lo on the album. It’s just really taking off where we last stopped.” (Spike TV)

The album is expected to hit retail stores in late October.

The “Day ‘N’ Nite” rapper’s sophomore set Man on the Moon 2: The Legend of Mr. Rager is now on the release schedule for October 26, Rap-Up.com has learned. It was previously slated for September 28. The hopes for a G.O.O.D. Music release day were dashed when his label Universal Motown moved the album back from its original September 14 date, the same day Kanye West is scheduled to drop his fifth album. (Rap-Up)

Last May, Cudi blogged about his “Dance Yrself Clean”-inspired record which also featured Chip Tha Ripper.

“thanx for all the love on the new joint yall. i really appreciate it sincerely. this was a idea i had that me and Chip decided to do for fun. as of right now its not on anything, we just recorded it and put it out just for the f*ck of it. itll be awhile til MOTM2 (still gunnin’ for Aug release or Sept), so i might keep releasing some fun joints here and there. ill keep you all posted faaashow.” (Kid Cudi Blog)
