Rapper Kid Cudi has reportedly had a run-in with the law after being arrested in New York City today (June 11) on drug and destruction charges.
Reports of Cudi’s arrest began to circulate online Friday (June 11) evening.
TMZ has learned Kid Cudi was arrested in NYC today for felony criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance. Sources say Kid took a 24-year-old woman’s phone and slammed it to smithereens. He also allegedly broke the door of her apartment off its hinges. Cops arrived and found a glass bottle of a controlled substance. (TMZ)
Last December, Cudi was mistakenly detained by police in Los Angeles, California.
Two police cars cordoned off the road while a further three pulled up next to Cudi’s vehicles. Passengers in the cars were then ordered out with their hands on their heads, before being made to kneel on the ground where they were handcuffed. It was only then that Los Angeles Police Department officers realised it was a case of mistaken identity. After the passengers had been released, the officer in charge explained that a resident in the vicinity of the shop had mistakenly identified the party as being involved in a burglary, before allowing Cudi’s entourage to go on its way. Cudi also confirmed being detained by police last winter.
“Who knows, really, the story changed a bunch,” he said in an interview. “I’m just happy to be back. I’m a free man! For that moment I was not free. I was in handcuffs. It did not feel very comfortable. We’re in LA, it’s a rowdy place in the United States, you know? And a lot of sh*t goes down. And these cops have to use force. So it’s, like, I understand that they were doing their job. I just wish we weren’t in that place at that time.” (Rap Radar)
In February 2009, Cudi also ran into trouble with police during an NBA All-Star Weekend event.
Cudi was in an altercation leaving him tasered and apprehended by authorities, according to multiple sources. The rapper apparently was involved in a fight or altercation while at a Reebok party in Phoenix, Arizona. Much of the music industry is in the city celebrating the NBA’s popular All-Star weekend. Eyewitnesses said he physically and verbally confronted a pair of Reebok employees. The artist was booked by the apparel company to perform at the venue. (All Hip Hop)
