Keri Hilson Reveals Her Top 3 Fav Rap Collabos, “Nas Was Always A Person I Wanted To Work With”

With a growing portfolio of hit records alongside rap stars like Kanye West and Rick Ross, R&B sensation Keri Hilson recently sat down with SOHH to discuss her favorite rap duets.

Reflecting on her ability to fuse R&B and hip-hop, Keri said she fully embraces both music genres.

“It doesn’t really make a difference to me,” Keri told SOHH when asked if she prefers doing R&B or rap records. “I love hip-hop, I love R&B, I love soul music. I’ve done lots of features and especially in hip-hop, so, I really just like showing different sides of me and being able to step into ‘their’ world. And just showing everybody that it does exist within me. It’s fun and I’m not partial to either.” (SOHH)

When asked to name her favorite collaborators, Hilson’s Top 3 boiled down to Lil Wayne, T.I. and Nas.

“Hmmm, I really have to recollect because I’ve done quite a few,” Hilson laughingly told SOHH, referring to her endless rap collaborations. “[laughs] I would have to go with ‘Turning Me On’ with Lil Wayne. That was my record. ‘Got Your Back’ with T.I., maybe. Yeah. And Nas was always a person I wanted to work with, so Nas’ ‘Hero’ was a fun one. Yeah, I’d have to go with those.” (SOHH)

Despite her love for rappers, late last year Hilson said she avoids engaging with them in a romantic fashion.

“When you mix a man who has popularity, who has money, who has b*tches, that’s a scary thing for me. It doesn’t speak to my insecurities, it’s just not the type of man that I want and I think I’m not the type of girl they want. I have a brain, I’m a little more than they bargained for.” (“Chelsea Lately”)

Outside of music, Hilson recently opened up about being single and searching for love.

“Every person has one,” says the “Pretty Girl Rock” singer, who is currently on the dating scene. “My breaking point… I mean, there are many. We, as women, are such hopeless romantics, and I know I’m one of them and I tolerate a bit more than I should just wanting to make a relationship work. Just wanting to be held at night. Wanting to be on dates and be a woman, you know? … If we’re in a committed relationship, not only do you step out and cheat, you had unprotected sex and had a baby out of the situation. That is like the ultimate. ‘OK, you cheated? Maybe we can work it out.’ … So a child is born of this side relationship you had, and I just probably could not do that.” (Rap-Up)
