West Coast rapper Kendrick Lamar discusses his close-knit relationship to music mogul Dr. Dre and promised despite a heavily publicized multi-billion dollar Apple deal, the Doc is onboard for his new album in the new Complex magazine. #docinthehouse
Despite Dre being a music mogul and having a never-ending schedule, K. Dot said fans could expect his touch on the long-awaited good kid, m.A.A.d city follow-up.
“Dr. Dre is always involved. He’s somebody I can always go in the studio and just vibe with, ask questions about different frequencies, about how snares hit, about how drums is hitting. When you into music, you into all of that. I’m always asking questions so the fact that I can just pick up my phone and ask him anything that I want at any given time about this business, or just in life in general, that’s a plus with me because that’s a very wise man.” (Complex)
Lamar also touched on how they mesh when the studio sessions start up.
“Yeah, we’ve got some good stuff. But yeah, sessions like that, being in the studio and him being the master at frequencies and sounds, I’m always curious, so when I feel like something is not right but I can’t find the actual definition or the proper word for it, I turn to him and he tells me exactly what it is. That’s just a great marriage.” (Complex)
Instead of bottling his concerns, K. Dot recently said he was excited about piecing together his next LP.
“It’s not really pressure,” Kendrick said in an interview. “I just keep the same instinct, doing what I feel, that makes me feel good at the moment. It’s really more excitement to get back in the studio and really do what I do. Nah, I don’t really feel pressure. … I’ll probably know exactly what [the title] is when I’m done with the music.” (93.7 The Beat)
Back in March, TDE head Anthony Tiffith promised projects from his camp, including K. Dot’s LP, were in the pipeline.
