Kendrick Lamar’s Pal & Joey Bada$$ Busted, Handcuffed Over Police Racism? [Video]

Top Dog Entertainment's Ab-Soul and rap newcomer Joey Bada$$ are making headlines this week as a result of reportedly being arrested during their nationwide tour in St. Louis last night (October 28).

Details of the arrests started to make rounds across the Internet early Tuesday (October 29).

Rappers Joey Bada$$ and Ab-Soul were arrested by police during their St. Louis, MO stop on the Smokers Club Tour Monday night (Oct. 28). Several members of Joey’s Pro Era crew were also placed under arrest. Little details are known beyond a video posted to Instagram (above) showing officials handcuffing the tourmates with Bada$$ laughing, telling one cop, “Have you figured out why I’m in these handcuffs? Have you figured it out? Yo, they don’t know why I’m in these handcuffs.” The cause of their arrest is allegedly marijuana-related. (VIBE)

Boston producer Statik Selektah commented on the incident via his Twitter page Tuesday morning.

UPDATE: Statik Selektah, Joey’s tour DJ, has provided fans an update in light of the recent arrest. Statik tweeted that nobody is currently in custody, but that last night’s incident was caused by “typical police racism.” He added that the show would go on tonight in St. Louis. “St. Louis For the record no one is in jail right now and the show goes on tonight. Typical police racism tho … re: @ComplexMag @HHNMblog” (Complex)

Selektah also issued a formal statement to simmer down the online chatter and speculation.

“No one is in jail,” Statik Selektah said in an exclusive statement to HipHopDX today (October 29). “The cops were profiling because Joey and Ab were walking through the hotel parking lot to the bus. I was inside the hotel working when it happened, but by the time I came out, the cops were gone and the hotel security told me how it was bullsh*T.” Statik was asked if Soul and Bada$$ were taken to the police station. “Naw,” Statik said. “The cops felt dumb as fuck after they realized they were f*cking up. [It was] basically profiling gone wrong. They saw the tour bus, passports, etcetera.” (HHDX)
