Initial reports suggested K. Dot’s long-awaited sophomore release would be called United States of A.L.A.R.M.

Rap Radar has revealed that Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming album will be titled United States Of A.L.A.R.M. with a release scheduled for September 2014. In a Billboard cover story last year, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith said they were shooting for a September release for Kendrick’s second major label album, so it looks like it’s coming right on time. We’ll update with more info when it becomes available. (Complex)

Shortly after the news went viral, media outlets began updating their coverage.

“Kendrick Lamar album info faker than a $3 bill, ya bish! Happy Saturday!,” media outlet Rap Radar tweeted May 10. (Rap Radar’s Twitter)

Some outlets suggested the buzz also stemmed from an open hip-hop forum.

UPDATE: United States Of A.L.A.R.M. is not the title of Kendrick Lamar’s sophomore album. The title and promo photo were made up. Rap Radar reported the story using a thread from the KanyeToThe forum. According to Karen Civil, the photo comes from a Vibe Magazine photo shoot. A member of TDE’s management team also confirmed that the news was fake. (Complex)

Lamar’s Top Dawg Entertainment management eventually slammed the title news.

“whats up with these fake ass news stories. unless you see @dangerookipawaa talk about it, shit aint real. #TopDawg #TDE,” a tweet read May 10.

“that goes for Interscope, news, blogs, etc…if u aint see it come directly from us #TDE don’t believe em…” (retOne TDE’s Twitter)
