All eyes from the sports world are focused on Cleveland, Ohio on Thursday night, as LeBron James is set to make his season debut with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Before tip-off against the New York Knicks, TNT and Samsung held a Coming Home Concert outside of the Quicken Loans Arena. Kendrick Lamar, whose new record “i” serves as the official theme song for the 2014-2015 NBA season and NBA on TNT broadcasts, performed the record live on television in front of thousands of eager Cavs supporters. Yesterday (October 29), Kendrick’s full NBA on TNT introduction video surfaced online.

Kendrick Lamar’s new single “i” has been commissioned by the NBA to appear in the NBA on TNT intro for it’s 2014-2015 season. Kicking off the season yesterday (with my Lakers taking yet another detrimental hit), the full clip was aired with K. Dot rapping alongside random highlights. (2 Dope Boyz)

Last month, Kendrick revealed he would like his next album to arrive before 2014 ends.

“I’m hoping to push it out before 2015,” Lamar said in an interview. “I’m gonna say that. I’m working hard in the studio. … When I go into creating an album or any type of song, I usually cut off everything from the radio because you can easily be influenced from songs that you like, songs that you may not like. So I said, ‘I’m gonna go in the studio and I’m going to do what I feel organically without being confined to industry standards or what people assume that I should do.’ Because, at the end of the day, man, I’m an artist and I would hate to be stagnant.” (97.1 AMP Radio)

A few weeks ago, Lamar said he received permission from music pioneer Ronald Isley for a sample on his new “i” record.

“I think music is universal. It’s an expression. No matter how it comes across, as long as it always remains you, that’s how they’re gonna respect it and they’re gonna have a connection with it. I got a chance to meet [Ronald Isley] and even got him on the ad libs for the record,. You can hear him. … I record a bunch of ideas and I really just sit and live with them until I feel like they got a potential of being a ten. Those be the keepers.” (“Big Boy’s Neighborhood”)
