West Coast rapper Kendrick Lamar recently talked about his current status in the music biz and what renowned musician he hoped to snatch up in the studio sooner than later.

K. Dot spoke on the importance of lyrics and dished on having singer Erykah Badu on his collaboration wish list.

What do your lyrics say about you as a person?

My lyrics say that I have morals, say that I have confidence, say I have weaknesses, say I have strong points, say l am a human being.

Out of all the tracks you have written, which do you feel the most proud of now?

The most proud of is tough, I’ve written a lot of tracks. If it had to be from this album, any one off this album really, sing about me, l’m real, Compton.

Who will you collaborate with in the future?

I’m really tight on collaborations, I always say Erykah Badu, that’s it for now, that’s always in the back of my mind. (I-D Vice)

He also discussed a love for West Coast-based hip-hop classics like the late 2Pac’s All Eyez On Me.

What track or album have you listened to more than any other?

That’s hard, that’s tough. They played a lot of Tupac All Eyez On Me, Me Against The World, they probably played that track a hundred thousand times in our house. (I-D Vice)

Last year, K. Dot and Badu performed at the 2013 BET Awards.

Kendrick Lamar kicked off Sunday night’s (June 30) 2013 BET Awards with one of the show’s most highly-anticipated performances. K. Dot began with “M.A.A.d City” and then transitioned into “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe.” On the latter, he was accompanied by a saxophone and the talented Erykah Badu. Right before he hit the stage, Kendrick Lamar scooped up an award for ‘Best New Artist.’ He beat out other newbies like The Weeknd and Joey Bada$$, but what was most interesting is that K Dot was MIA when he had to claim his prize. Coincidentally, the R&B diva spoke out and challenged rapper Drake to respond to some subliminal Lamar lyrics he allegedly fired at him during a BET Cypher last year..

“Drake, u gotta come-back boy … This HipHop.,” she tweeted October 4. (Erykah Badu’s Twitter)
