West Coast rapper Kendrick Lamar recently dished out who he had the biggest crush on during his childhood, admitting he even used a birthday wish to meet his dream girl in person.
According to Lamar, his celebrity crush centered on R&B singer Brandy.
“My celebrity crushes as a kid? This is a trip because it’s funny. When I was a kid — I was like seven, I found this four-leaf clover and I had picked it and my wish was to meet Brandy for my birthday. The wish never came true though. [laughs] So I don’t know if I believe in four-leaf clovers.” (FUSE TV)
Last year, Lamar’s close pal J. Cole revealed his childhood crush on late singer Aaliyah.
“Aaliyah, man, it’s such a [tragedy],” Cole said in an interview. “I had such a crush on Aaliyah. It was like a little boy crush but it was a true crush. Then when she died, I called my mentor because he was way older than me and I was like, ‘Man, you think it would be corny? I want to make a beat.’ I was always naming my beats, and this beat I wanna make for Aaliyah. Not a song, I just wanted to make a beat…I did a beat. I wish I could remember, like, I remember slightly what the beat sounded like. But that was my way to pay respect in my own little world, in my own room, just making a beat for her.” (Soul Culture)
Over the summer, rap mogul Jay-Z admitted he had a thing for actress Nia Long during his youth.
Jay-Z might be married to the hottest singer, but the rapper recently revealed that he has a secret celebrity crush and it’s on someone other than Beyoncé. During a recent interview with Essence, Nia Long said she caught up with Jay at an event where the 41-year-old actress complimented him on his career. “I saw him at a party and I complimented him on his long run in music,” she said. “But he turned it around and asked me: ‘How does it feel to be every boy from the hood’s fantasy girlfriend for 20 years?’ It made me laugh, I hadn’t really thought about it.” Well Jay-Z’s crush, Nia Long, is dating Ime Udoka and has a child with the basketball player, but we don’t think the rapper’s love life has turned out half bad either. Outside of love, Lamar’s new good kid, m.A.A.d. city debut is expected to have sold up to 245,000 copies this week.
NEXT WEEK’S TOP 15: A big part of our job, these days, is coming up with new ways to think about how many records Taylor Swift is selling. So grok this: This week, Big Machine’s big Red monster will likely sell more than the rest of the Top 50 albums combined. It may, in fact, have the biggest opening since 2005, when 50 Cent‘s The Massacre lived up to its name with a 1.14m bow. It’s also due for the second-largest first week ever for a female artist, trailing only Britney Spears‘ massive “Oops … I Did It Again,” which opened with 1.319m way back in 2000. Here’s how the field looks with the weekend looming: * Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 1.15-1.25m * Kendrick Lamar (Aftermath/Interscope) 235-245k (HDD)
