Prior to performing his own tunes, Lamar joined fellow musician Adam Levine and the Lonely Island for a parody music video.

Last night Adam Levine, Andy Samberg, and Kendrick Lamar starred in the best digital short on”Saturday Night Live” since the hilarious Justin Timberlake “D*** in a Box” short. I know — you doubt me. Go ahead and watch it because this is an instant classic if I’ve ever seen one. It’s called “YOLO” — which stands for You Only Live Once — and I’ve watched it five times already because every time I watch it I catch some other little hilarious clip I missed the time before. I think Levine is trying to move in on Timberlake’s territory and you know … I think he’s got a shot. You see what I mean? Instant classic. And Samberg’s Lonely Planet team (that’s the name of his production company) is ready for the onslaught of attention. They’ve got half a dozen t-shirts for sale with different sayings from the short. Along with the tear-jerking segment, Lamar also performed a couple of his good kid, m.A.A.d city records.

Kendrick Lamar made his Saturday Night Live debut last night in support of last year’s CoS Top Star-earning, year-end favorite good kid, m.A.A.d city. The Compton prince not only performed two cuts off the album — “Swimming Pools (Drank)” and “Poetic Justice” — but also appeared alongside host Adam Levine in the SNL Digital Short for The Lonely Island’s new song, “Yolo.” (Consequence of Sound)

A few days ago, Kendrick publicly pleaded for NBC to give him a shot at showing off his acting skills.

“Yeah, I’ll do a skit. We clown around in the studio all day; I can do it on TV in front of the camera,” Kendrick told MTV News before making an on-camera pitch to the show’s producers: “Put me in one of those skits ‘SNL’! Wassup?” On Saturday, the Compton, California, rap star will be holding down the “SNL” fort for the first time with Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, who will serve as the show’s host. For Lamar, the look will open him up to a broader audience, and he marveled at the idea of performing on the long-running sketch comedy show. (MTV)

The Compton rapper also described how much respect and admiration he has for the long-standing sketch comedy show.

“‘SNL,’ that’s a whole ‘nother world, especially for a new artist in hip-hop. I’m blessed,” he said. “I’m fortunate to not only have the urban culture to be looking at my music, but just everybody around the world to feel the same way about it. And I just really appreciate everybody taking the time out to listen.” (MTV)
