After years of waiting and nixed release dates, Aftermath Records’ Kendrick Lamar has come to Dr. Dre‘s defense and explained the latest reason behind his Detox delay.
According to Lamar, his new good kid, m.A.A.d. city LP has forced Dre to keep Detox off shelves.
“Detox got pushed ot the back just because my album, Dre really found interest in my music [and] wanted me to go forward and push that immediately,” Lamar said in an interview. “That’s a great thing. I’ve heard the records on Detox, they’re insane, and the opportunity to be on that is a privilege and an honor.” (Puna NL)
Last March, former N.W.A. group member Ice Cube gave his take on why the album has not dropped.
Still to this day, there is no official word on ‘Detox,’ and Dre has even stated that he was taking a break from music to focus on other things in his life. Aside from music, Dr. Dre’s Beats By Dre headphones have become a massive success, and it seems the super producer has focused most of his time and energy to that particular business venture. Fellow N.W.A. rapper Ice Cube recently addressed the issue of Dre’s multiple delays on ‘Detox’ album, which coincides with the aforementioned statements about the Beats by Dre headphones. In a recent interview with Sway, Ice Cube stated, ” “Honestly? Them headphones are selling, selling, selling. What would you rather sell somebody: $300 headphones, or a $10 tape?” (This Beat Goes)
In January, Dre’s Aftermath protege, Slim the Mobster, gave hip-hop heads a small Detox update.
“Just got off the phone with @drdre told me he gettin it in with lil wayne tonight….. #detox,” he tweeted Monday. (Slim the Mobster’s Twitter)
Despite announcing plans to take a music hiatus last year, Dre later promised Detox would remain a top priority.
“Well, right now I’m just taking a small break to come out and do some promotion with Beats but actually I’m getting back on it when I get home. It has to feel good,” Dre said in an interview when asked about taking a break from music. (Time Out)
